And for toilets that don't have a kaboom, I drill a hole through the center of the bromine tab, put fishing line through it, and drop it down into the innards of the toilet. I tie the fishing line off through the overflow drain in the tank. It doesn't sit in water constantly, it only gets wet when a flush happens, and this seems to make it last much longer, while still being effective at preventing nasty stuff from forming. You seem to need very very little of the actual bromine to make the bowl water inhospitable to things that grow.

Saying that, I've tried these… they have an overpowering bleach smell. Like really bad. Now I use Lowe's Bromine jacuzzi tablets. They work better for the kaboom.
