UGREEN's 160W five port GaN charger stands out for stable laptop charging, with the top ports holding power well and the first port delivering at least 65W, while the bottom USB C and USB A share power. It is also compact enough for a 160W brick and includes AVS support, which fits newer iPhone charging needs. The main knocks are its weight, which lands around 12 to 15.5 ounces, and heat buildup when several phones are plugged in. The link also appears to point to a 100W version in some cases, so the exact model needs a careful check.

Common Questions (5)

  • The top three USB ports reportedly do not reset when another device is connected, and the top port stays at least 65W. The bottom USB-C and USB-A share power, so adding devices mainly affects the lower shared-output ports.

  • The first port can reach about 140W by itself, and when the first two ports are used together they can drop to around 75W each, with the remaining ports around 25W each. That makes it suitable for laptops on the top ports and smaller devices on the lower ports.

  • It has been weighed at about 12 oz to 15.5 oz, so it is close to a pound and heavier than smaller chargers. Even so, it is still described as not overly bulky for a 160W, 5-port charger.

  • It can get hot when multiple phones are plugged in, sometimes too hot to touch, but it still charges. Under heavier multi-device use, another report says it stayed cool enough not to get hot while delivering enough power.

  • It is reported to support AVS, but it may still not charge an iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max at 65W because it lacks the extended voltage range requirement. In practice, that means the phone can be limited to about 45W.

UGREEN has another 160W wall charger that replaces one of the USB-C ports with a built-in retractable USB-C cable for$40 more at $99 (everything else the same)...I'm wondering the retractable USB-C cable is worth the extra $40? I would love someone's insight/personal opinion.

The better ones today limit the last inputs but the primary and sometimes first two stay constant for laptops. I found this for $47 on Ali.

Also, I bought recently a 200W 4 input Ugreen without a screen for $60 net (Ugreen direct had a $10 coupon for providing an email address).

UGREEN GaN USB C Charger 200W - Dual Laptop Charging – UGREEN US https://share.google/h8Ak6kJoTttauXuJG

It's been working great. Not getting hot when all four inputs are in use and providing enough juice to fast charge everything. I think their more expensive chargers are worth the money but reviews on cheaper chargers are mixed.

I've used ones with a built-in cable in the past but had one where the cable stopped working.
Granted it lasted about 3 years, but I realized that I couldn't even replace the damaged cable because it's a sealed unit.

$40 affords me a pack of new cables to upgrade/replace my old ones.

Personally I'd pay more to skip the retractable cable. It's less useful and more prone to failure than an additional port and the marginal convenience is negligible (others may disagree).

Nice, thank you. I'll have a look. So, just to be clear, the first one does not renegotiate power output for the first port (the topmost for a power hungry device) or for the first plugged in device?

I even mentioned a direct counter example. It's not "supposed to" happen, it's just a cheaper way to build.

Your first link takes you to a 100W version and not 160W. I accidentally hit purhcase on the 100W and now i am trying to get seller to cancel the order.

But not very happy, and i should of paid more attention to the link. Others should also be warned, that you will be linked to a 100W version.

Exactly.

Reset-free adapters are harder to find, but they do exist.

There's nothing in the USB PD spec that says it's "supposed to" happen, though it's a topic USB IF could stand to address more clearly.

Right now, it's more like a lottery as to how adapters handle these events.
