got this, but I'm returning it due to bufferbloat issues. I'm not sure if it's my house or the equipment, but it just kept having huge lag spikes even after I changed the settings.

network newb here, but i have a 1927 house with dense plaster walls. i have xfinity 1 GB. router and modem located on the 1st floor. i can get that speed when i'm on the 1st floor, but for most of the 2nd floor, i can get at least a few hundred, but in my office on the second floor, i can only get 50mbps download max.... i've tried pointing the antennas in different directions but it doesn't help. the straight line distance between this office and the modem and router is between 15-20 ft i think

will this product help extend the wifi to this particular office? and does it involve running a shit load of wire around?

Yeah I upgraded a few years ago kept my Deco S4s and now I've basically got six nodes humming through the house since everything stays backward compatible.

It should depending on how much the walls interfere. They use wireless to extend so you don't have to run wires but if the walls are blocking then wired back haul between nodes would help. If you have coax in the room where your router/cable model is and in your office you can look into moca adapters. They will convert coax to Ethernet at both locations without affecting your cable TV service and let you use wired back haul without running wires.

I don't think I have coax in this office unfortunately. there was a port that i thought was an ethernet port but it seems to be for a phone line as an ethernet cable doesn't fit.

given this is a 3 pack, maybe i can just position the 3 in between my modem/router and this particular room?

You can also look into a powerline connection as long as you have an outlet near your router that's on the same circuit breaker as your upstairs office. Probably a cheaper solution if your only issue is the speeds in your office.

Yeah, this shoukd fix it, and you won't need to run wires everywhere unless you really want to.
​Those 1920s plaster walls are absolute Wi-Fi sponges they kill 5 GHz dead, so a single downstairs router never stood a chance reaching your office upstairs. A Deco mesh fixes that by chaining the signal up to the second floor, so you actually get full, stable speeds without dead zones.

The point is no wires. The Decos ping off each other to handle the internet load. If you need to further improve the through put you can add their back haul unit BUT both the satellite unit you are trying to speed up and the main unit hooked to your router have to be on the same breaker.

I'm unfamiliar with how wifi deals with paster but you should be able to strategically place two downstairs and the one in your office to get a good improvement. You may need a second person to stand next to your office Deco with a signal meter app on their phone while you move the downstairs Deco(s) around for best effect. That tactic may help with your current config, too, so maybe lead with that before buying.
