This bundle pairs a standard Xbox Wireless Controller with $50 in Microsoft account credit, making it most useful if you already wanted both a controller and store credit. The controller is praised as one of the better budget options for PC and for how it fits in hand, and the gift card can be used on Microsoft Store purchases like apps or a Surface. The main drawback is recurring stick drift, with some also noting button wear and limited repairability on newer Series controllers. A solid value if the credit fits your plans.
Gamers replacing a worn controller, because the bundle is a decent buy when you already planned to get a Microsoft controller.
Microsoft Store shoppers who will use account credit on apps or hardware, because the gift card goes to a Microsoft account and can fund store purchases.
Stick drift is a known issue on Xbox controllers, including Series X/S models, and several reports say it can show up after 1-3 years or sooner with heavy use. Some controllers last for years without it, but the design uses standard potentiometers that can wear out over time.
Yes, it is a better value if you were already going to buy a Microsoft controller or spend Microsoft credit anyway. The bundle is mainly worthwhile when the gift card has a use, since the controller itself still carries the usual stick-drift risk.
Do I need this? My new Xbox Series S/X controller does not stay connected to my Legion Go; it works plugged in sometimes, but it is finicky.
I had the same issue with my steam deck
Microsoft has an app for the PC that updates the controller's firmware. Did it to my new controller and it fixed the issue
My graveyard of Xbox controllers is now about 15 deep. 3 gamers in the family. Every single one of them died due to stick drift. Tearing them apart of cleaning also hasn't worked or was a tiny bandaid solution that eventually led to another failure a short time later.
12 Xbox controllers over 15 years. Never had stick drift. Maybe take better care of your stuff?
I'm gonna venture a guess that the mileage on your controllers is quite low. Mine have been used exclusively by me- kids use the switch- and kept in good shape, the sticks have gone on 4 of them after about a year or two of use. It starts slow and then it is toast after a month or two more.
Since you had such a strong and frankly rude stance, maybe consider looking into why they break- it is because the potentiometers are thin little pieces of metal, setup one on each of four sides of a cube next to the stick, and they wear thin over time and are well known to do this.
I'm glad yours never had stick drift though, either because you rarely use them or are extremely lucky. Congrats!

Seriously sad that literally everyone has had these controllers break to stick drift. The even worse offense is that they made the X series controllers unfixable without soldering. The old Xbox One controller sensors could be replace without soldering. Right to repair is worth advocating.

same... i literally still have X360 controllers that have never had an issue. bought tons of special edition controllers and even 2 of the original Elite (for 25$ each at Target back in the day, i'd never pay full price) over the years... not a single controller with stick drift.
meanwhile, my wife's cousin's kid stayed with us a few years... he went through 3 controllers in that time.
people don't take care of their stuff and are rather dirty. you beat something up enough and get your food/grime/nastiness in it... yeah, it's guna break.
So many people showing up to defend a mega corporation.
Just because stick drift didn't happen to you, doesn't mean it's not a systemic problem due to the design of these controllers. These use regular potentiometers that WILL wear out to some degree.
If you have the option to, like if you're playing on PC, buy a third party controller with Hall/TMR sticks. It will be both cheaper and better than this.
I have four Xbox Series controllers. One developed stick drift and two lost face button sensitivity after button mashing in Hades for 100 hours.

Yes. The gift card goes to your Microsoft account and can be used on Microsoft Store purchases such as apps or even a Surface, not just Xbox content.
Yes. Microsoft's PC app can update the controller firmware, and that fixed a controller issue for one user on a Steam Deck.
