For me, RAM is more important as that will be the bottle neck to load the LLMs. Chances are the work you're doing probably don't need that many cores. Many apps just use a single core.

This is tempting. I just ordered the M5 Pro Chip 18 Core with 48GB RAM and 1 TB for this exact price from BH. This gives me more storage and more CPU/GPU cores but RAM goes down. I will also have to pay $300 in taxes on this one that BH covered on their credit card.

For me, RAM is more important as that will be the bottle neck to load the LLMs. Chances are the work you're doing probably don't need that many cores. Many apps just use a single core.

Yeah 48GB is much better to run 35B models. It is tempting, but I think I will stick with my BH order.

Max cpu memory bandwidth is double pro, but with 36gb ram this thing isn't going to be running big LLMs anyway. 36gb is plenty for average software engineering workflow if you don't care about local LLM. Don't go below that though. My company skimped and I always have high memory pressure when running docker stacks on 24gb.

What kind of context windows are you running locally with these LLMs? Even at 48GB, to fit something like a Qwen3.8 27B at half context window you'd need both 4b quantization to the model and the KV cache. Between the loss and the constant compactions, I can't use it for a local coding agent

B&H had the same deal two days ago. The price changed shortly after checkout opened, so I assume it sold out very quickly. I ordered the Nano-Texture Glass model for $2,999. It's still $50 more than Micro Center's price, but with no sales tax, it ends up being cheaper for me than buying from Micro Center.

Keep the one with 48GB RAM! You can add external storage, but not RAM! And, that is a great buy..
