Cooking dried beans is the tastiest way to go, if you've never tried it you really should. But it takes a bit of meal planning so never a bad idea to have some canned beans on hand

420mg salt x 3.5 servings = 1480mg (64% daily value) a can. That's a lot.

I was thinking this too, but I always rinse my beans so I am guessing that will cut over 50% of the salt maybe even 75%. Thoughts?

In a small heavy pot saute:

- 1 sm minced onion
- 1 sm minced jalapeno
- 1 clove minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 2-3 tbs minced cilantro (optional)
-1/2 tsp salt and pepper (to taste)

Once onions are transparent, add 2 cans of pintos (liquid included)
Bring to a soft boil
Mash beans with a potato masher

The starch in the beans will thicken the liquid. Heat on low for 5-10 more minutes. Let set for 10 minutes.

You now have fantastic quick refried beans!

I think a study a read said rinsing drained about a quarter of the salt.

About the same as Bush's and Kuner's, a lot more than Great Value brand. I never really thought about this before, but I will now, thanks.

A bit too dry, need to add some chicken stock before mashing. And Tyler Florence cooks chorizo first and then adds the beans and stock.
