Anyway, MitchJ's opinion notwithstanding, I thought this was one of the better executed examples of its genre, and a nice thing to read for the 800th time this month to a kid who can't yet say her name while on two hours of sleep. That's when the minimalist content, paired with a consistent meter and rhyme scheme, really pays off. Books that swing bigger—and that I might enjoy more on the first 400 reads—usually get old faster (with some obvious exceptions, like Goodnight Moon).
But I don't want to hate on MitchJ too much because I feel the same way about plenty of other widely praised infant sap-fests. I'd just rather talk about the ones I like (or at least tolerate) than the ones I can't stand.
