Amazon Basics 13 gallon drawstring trash bags are a low cost kitchen bag option that works well for everyday bin to outside can use. The drawstrings fit well for some, the bags are reported to hold 15 to 20 pounds, and long term use has been fine for several households with no leaks or tears. The main drawbacks are fit and consistency, with reports of bags tearing, seams splitting, drawstrings failing, and some boxes arriving with sealing defects. A solid everyday pick if your trash loads stay fairly light.

Common Questions (5)

  • They can work well for basic kitchen-to-outside-bin use, with reports of no leaks or tears and strong drawstrings over years of use. Others report tearing, leaking, or drawstring failures, so fit and durability may be inconsistent between boxes or use cases.

  • Fit can be an issue: some reports say the bags are cut small, won't stay on the can, or slide off certain bins like an Ubbi diaper pail. Others say they fit fine for everyday kitchen use, so bin shape and how tightly you stretch them matter.

  • They're reported to handle about 15-20 pounds of household garbage with strong drawstrings, but heavier stretching or overfilling can cause side seams to split or bags to tear. They're better suited to normal kitchen waste than tougher yard or shop use.

  • The deal price is $10.79 before discounts, then $2.70 off from the clipped 25% coupon and another $0.54 off with Subscribe & Save, bringing it to $7.55. Some accounts also saw a first-time S&S discount that dropped it to $6.47.

  • At roughly $7.55 for 90 bags, the cost is about 8.4 cents per bag. Community benchmarks put 10 cents per bag or less as a good target, with around 7 cents per bag considered ideal stock-up pricing.

The problem with these bags is the heat sealing machine. I had too many bags sealed on both ends or not sealed on either end. Also had the drawstring only partially sealed into place on many bags. Honest to God, probably half the box was this way. I'll never buy them again.

IMO, Kirkland/Costco brand is of better quality.
Agreed.

I go through these bags 2x/wk for around 5 years now (so 500+.) I had the drawstring fail maybe twice. Not sure if people are putting bricks and broken glass in their bags, but this is one of the many examples why I minimize the public's opinion to a small factor in purchasing decisions. For me at least, they're fine.

90% of the 5088 people that rated them didn't think they were crap. Everyone has different standards I guess. I just need it to make it from the kitchen bin to the garbage bin outside. Not a huge task.
You will not get through the box without ties separating and bags tearing. Hopefully, a big mess is not made.

Putting kitchen garbage in them. Sometimes light, sometimes messy and sometimes heavy. I will not gamble that I'll make it to the outside can without an issue. One box of these bags and I learned.

I bought these last time. They're cheap but definitely not the same strength as Costco's bags.

What am I missing? I used to be able to change the delivery date for S&S items so that 5 could ship at the same time, giving me a larger discount. I don't see the option to send this with my next S&S anywhere.

These are fine for light, basic use, but they are indeed inferior to, say Kirkland bags from Costco. For example, I used them in an Ubbi diaper pail, and for whatever reason they won't stay attached to the lip - they slide off and fall into the pail. I had to do an elaborate knot thing with them just to keep them in place which made it a huge pain to take on and off. Brand name / Costco bags, I just drop em in and they stay put.

Oddly, these, Sam's Club and Costco brand bags all state 0.9mil thickness.

Sure. When I stretch them to fit my regulation size trash can the seam splits on the side. Never happened in my whole life. Lesson learned
