Lol its because it uses triple-channel memory so there's 3x16gb chips but yes, big and fast. (https://www.techpowerup.com/cpu-s...-100.c4340)

If you're going to clone to a larger SSD (I used a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB), I would recommend using Hasleo Backup Suite and do the cloning live in Windows (not from a bootable portable USB drive). Being ARM is a little different than doing it on an Intel Windows laptop. This ASUS has 16 partitions on the SSD. Hasleo is the only one I could get working as it should. Macrium works but marks the wrong partition as the boot so the target SSD doesn't boot. You can fix it with a some commands to mark the correct partition. Search with Google as there is a reddit thread how to fix it.

compatibility. some programs just aren't going to work. i guess its come a long way and is still getting there but you'll have programs that just won't work. but i guess these cpu's are actually low battery usage beasts and should be fine for most.

The ZenBook A16 stands out as a fast, premium Windows on ARM laptop with a 3K OLED 120 hertz touch display, 48 gigabytes of RAM, and very strong battery life. The Snapdragon X2E94100 feels snappy in everyday use, runs quietly, and can deliver around 10 hours of real work. App compatibility is much better than early ARM fears suggested, but specific programs, some games, and a few utilities still fail or need workarounds. Open box warranty handling and the single M.2 storage slot are the main cautions, though the machine still looks like a capable travel and productivity pick.

Common Questions (5)

  • Most common productivity apps now run natively on Windows on ARM, and many others can run through emulation. Specific holdouts can still fail, so it is worth checking the exact apps you need before buying.

  • Yes. The SSD appears to be a single M.2 2280 drive, and users have upgraded it to larger drives such as a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB. Cloning can be tricky on this ARM model, and Hasleo Backup Suite is the tool most often recommended for a working clone.

  • Open-box warranty coverage can be risky: ASUS may not reset the warranty, and coverage may depend on whether the unit was previously registered or how Best Buy handled the receipt. Buying new avoids that uncertainty and gives the full 1-year ASUS warranty.

  • It is not a strong gaming choice, with reports of DRM failures, crashes, and very low frame rates in some games. Linux support is still developing, so Windows or WSL is the safer option if you need a development machine.

    OldnCrappyHat-TrickEnceladusfungame

  • Real-world battery life can reach about 10 hours of normal work use, which is far better than older x86 laptops that were limited to around 3 hours. The Snapdragon platform is also described as very power efficient for most users.

I would definitely return and rebuy new because you basically get little to no ASUS warranty on an open box and BB won't give you anything either unless you're a Total member, but even then you have to pay a deductible. RETURN IT and get a brand new one with a full 1YR ASUS warranty.

This particular laptop is a dream. 3K OLED 120Hz screen with the almost best Snapdragon Elite Extreme chip and the whipped cream and cherry is 48GB RAM! In this day and age, getting all this for under $1400 is a "buy now, think later" decision if you need a laptop.

I have one and really haven't had much issue with app compatibility but everyone's mileage may vary. If you have specific apps you need to run, there are sites that list all the ARM apps that are available. Most of the common stuff has ARM versions now. If not, there is emulation mode, but I try real hard to keep mine close as possible to native ARM.

Windows is very snappy on this. Moreso than on an Intel/AMD laptop. It's very fast. MacBook-like fast.

How is the battery? Any fan noise? And does it get hot?

Planning to do the same! I actually ordered a used one in "Excellent condition" yesterday, but then saw this deal. Getting it brand new for just $130 more was an absolute no-brainer.

My only minor gripes: I really wish this had USB-C/thunderbolt 4 ports on both sides and a haptic touchpad.

Crazy deal. I've had x86 laptops for 20 years and I've never gotten more than 3 hours out of them no matter how much I kill TSRs. Normal work, no gaming, no video watching. This is the first time I've gotten 10 actual hours of real usage.

Amazing laptop been using since release. Haven't encountered any problematic software except Insta360 Studio. Even corporate checkpoint VPN works fine. At home I use it on Best Performance power mode and I can't even hear the fan. My annoying HP G4 Thunderbolt dock fan is noisier than my laptop!!

OH also Macrium Reflect Free doesn't work (only in paid) so I moved to Hasleo
