The only big caveat is that you have to have service on it. And to put it into standby cost 10 bucks a month. So, cool idea but kind of sucks if you're not planning on using it very often. I thought it was great initially but then I chose not to grab one.
I know folks who use them at their lake houses and they play games like on PS5 with no outages, even during storms. Of course, they have generators attached to their houses, just in case the power goes out.
Which 99.9% of the population would already understand that would obviously be the case.
For the other .1%, do you see some possible issues if (anyone) offered free equipment with no commitments ?
that's not how "free" usually works. With centurylink and comcast I got to keep my router or modem after my service with them ended. When I sign up for a plan with a "free phone", I get to keep the phone after a year of service. You don't get a free starlink mini, you just get the service and the equipment necessary for the service to work. Otherwise you might say a car lease comes with a free car for the duration of the lease.

Where I live, Comcast wants all their old equipment returned!
