These KOOPER solar motion flood lights are best understood as low cost outdoor lights that are easy to install and can throw a surprisingly strong beam. The adjustable solar panel and flexible heads make placement easier, and the motion mode can light a driveway and part of the street. The main concern is durability, with reports of batteries or whole units failing after days, weeks, or months, often tied to water intrusion or weak charging. Sealing the seams with silicone is a common workaround, making this a practical pick if you are comfortable treating it as a replaceable item.

Common Questions (6)

  • Reported lifespans range from a few days to several years. Some units failed after 2-3 days or within a couple of weeks, while others kept working for 6 months, a year, or longer when sealed against water and maintained with battery replacements.

  • Yes. Sealing the seams or housing with silicone before outdoor installation is used to reduce water intrusion, and one report says that approach kept similar cheap solar lights working for 3 years. A vertical-mounted unit without sealing let water collect and discolor the bottom light.

  • The battery is often the part that fails rather than the LEDs, and replacing it can extend life significantly. One similar light lasted about 2 years on the original battery, then kept going past 7 years after swapping in Amazon rechargeable batteries.

  • In dim standby they stay at about half brightness, then switch to full brightness for roughly 10 seconds when motion is detected. One installed unit was bright enough to light a driveway about two car lengths long and part of the street.

  • The solar panel can be turned all the way to the back, and the light heads are described as very flexible. The panel is fixed enough that some buyers wish it could be mounted under a soffit for better protection from sun and weather.

  • Yes. These are solar lights, so they can be installed without touching electrical wiring or running new wire, which makes them a simple outdoor lighting option for places without existing power.

Cheap solar floods are basically consumables at this point. I keep a spare in the shed and swap it in when one quits, and it's usually the battery that goes, not the LEDs. Under $7 a head, that math works.

My experience as well for years. So I haven't bought anything solar for a long long time.
I hope someone has figured out a way to replace the damn batteries when they go bad, or at least repurpose the lights in a safe and easy way.

Check if these can do full power for more than a few min. Tried some that always on mode would be half light and too dim. Alert mode made them go on and off and on and off as I walked around for 10 min prepping garbage bins. Drove me nuts.

It is amazing that you can get leds, battery's, motion sensors, solar panels, shipping overseas, wiring, mounting hardware, assembly for $7. Thanks to XI

I installed one of these above my garage about a week ago. The area gets a decent amount of sunlight. I have it on the setting where it stays dimly lit until it detects motion and then goes full bright for about 10 seconds. So far so good. Full bright is enough to light up my driveway and part of the street in front of the house. My driveway is about 2 car lengths long.

I wish the solar panel was not fixed - I want to install under a soffit, and protect the light a bit from the sun and weather
Oh well.
