I wouldn't buy this if it were a dollar, because if a company can't be trusted to title their listing correctly, then I can't trust them to keep formaldehyde out of supposedly food-safe utensils (I'm not saying they do this, just that I can't trust them either way)..
A good end grain board with proper hardwood is gonna run you ~$200+ but if you want a budget option you can often find acacia side grain boards for under $30 at TJ Maxx.
Community Reviews
This small bamboo cutting board is best suited for light prep or bar use, especially lemons and limes. The 11.8 inch by 7.9 inch size limits its usefulness, and the listing's end grain claim is questioned because the visible surface appears to be side grain. Bamboo is also described as harder on knives than better hardwood boards, and thin boards can separate or warp over time. Hand washing and regular oiling are recommended to help it last longer.
Common Questions (4)
It measures 11.8" x 7.9", which is quite small for a main prep board. It is better suited for light tasks like cutting lemons and limes or as a bar board.
Bamboo can be harder on knife edges than better hardwood boards, and thin bamboo boards can separate at the seams. A thicker hardwood end-grain board is the safer choice if you want less knife wear and better long-term durability.
The listing appears misleading: the board shown is natural side grain, not true end grain. That matters because end grain is usually preferred for butcher blocks and durability, while this one is being called out as a side-grain bamboo board.
Wash it by hand only; do not machine-wash wood cutting boards. Sealing with mineral oil, board butter, or tung oil can help reduce warping and splitting and extend the board's life.
