This game was unfairly compared to Breath of the Wild. They are both Open World, but this is not a clone. I enjoyed the equivalent to what you would consider to be "shrines" more than Breath of the Wild because I found them to be more challenging and requiring more thought. They tend to be longer in length and take some thinking to get through later in the game. The biggest down side is the story. The script isn't great, and the voice acting is annoying to the point that I just gave up on it and skipped everything. The overall plot is good, it's just so annoying executed. To be clear, Zelda is the superior game, but this was a great game that was viewed critically online to some degree. It has its fans, and I do wish they hadn't cancelled a sequel, but this franchise is likely never coming back.

I loved this one. I'm sad it never found a strong audience as I thought it was a really fun experience.

Lots of great content for $6

I've been a console gamer for over 45 years. This is the only game that I ever got every Xbox achievement and trophy for the PS4 and PS5 lists. Could not get enough of this game. I owned breath of the wild, and it stayed sealed while I played this. Ended up selling the switch without playing BOTW. This game clicked for me.

Community Reviews

Immortals Fenyx Rising Gold Edition is a fun open world action game that leans hard into puzzles, combat, and lots of content, especially at this price. The shrine style challenges are described as more thoughtful and often tougher than Breath of the Wild, and the Gold Edition adds a strong reason to revisit it for the DLC and extras. The main drawback is the story presentation, with the script and voice acting called annoying, though the gameplay and visuals still land well. A solid pick if you want a big Ubisoft style adventure with plenty to do.

Players who want a big single-player adventure with extra content, because the base game is fun and the edition bundles DLC and extras.
Vault-Tec AndrewF5410 ROKET
Action-adventure players who like approachable combat and a game that grows on them, because the gameplay is fun and not too difficult.
KungFooMF ebolaboi RotoJedi
Puzzle fans who want longer, more demanding shrine-style challenges, because the side activities require more thought and can be solved without a guide.
HomerOnTheToilet vivisimonvi
Open-world players who enjoy map clutter and collectible hunting, because the game packs in tons of points of interest and collectibles.
KungFooMF UniqueNewYork

Story-first players who want strong writing and polished voice acting, because the script is weak and the voice acting can become annoying enough to skip.
HomerOnTheToilet KungFooMF
Players who want a very short, low-commitment campaign, because the game has lots of content and can take sustained effort to finish.
Vault-Tec RotoJedi
Players expecting a pure Breath of the Wild substitute, because it is an open-world game but not a clone.
HomerOnTheToilet

The game offers longer shrine-like challenges that require more thought than typical open-world tasks.
HomerOnTheToilet
The puzzle design includes well-thought-out challenges that can support full completion without a guide.

At around $6, the Gold Edition is described as having lots of great content for the price.
Vault-Tec
The Gold Edition can be a practical way to access DLC and extras in one package after finishing the base game.
ROKET

The story script and voice acting can be annoying enough to cause skipping major parts.
HomerOnTheToilet
The open-world experience includes lots of collectables and POIs, but the overall story is described as only alright.
KungFooMF
The gods' goofiness may be tolerable for some players, but it can still be a distraction.

Common Questions (5)

Yes. It has lots of well-thought-out shrine-like puzzles that can be more challenging and require more thought than Breath of the Wild's, and some later sections can be tough without a guide. The Gold Edition also includes the DLC, adding more content for the price.
HomerOnTheToilet vivisimonvi Vault-Tec AndrewF5410
It is a Ubisoft-style open world with lots of collectibles and points of interest on the map, often compared to "baby's first AC." Combat is a highlight, and the game is large enough that some players 100%'d it along with the DLC.
KungFooMF vivisimonvi UniqueNewYork RotoJedi
Yes. At around $6 it is described as a no-brainer because it offers a fun experience, lots of content, and the Gold Edition bundles the DLC and extras in one package. Several players said they would happily rebuy it at that price.
Vault-Tec KungFooMF AndrewF5410 ebolaboi
The story is decent, but the script and voice acting can be irritating, with Zeus especially coming off as a goofy, annoying presence for some players. The gameplay, combat, and open-world exploration still make it fun enough that several players pushed through or skipped the dialogue.
HomerOnTheToilet KungFooMF ebolaboi
Yes, it can be completed without a guide, including the DLC, but some puzzles and later sections are challenging enough that they may take extra thought. The game rewards persistence and can grow on you once you settle into it.

I really enjoyed this game but never got the DLC. Id be buying on PS5 (same price) and this is the best way to get the DLC in once package but is it worth it? Like if Ive already beat the game (years ago now) and wanted to try out the DLC, would it be worthwhile?

I got PC version for free with purchase of GPU (or was it CPU) back at launch. I enjoyed this game. Not sure if I get Zelda Breath of the Wild vibe playing this. I think the vibe is closer to Darksiders than Zelda (though Darksiders has that similar Zelda feel too).

But I did fine the story amusing.
