These protein bars are mainly praised for a Barebells-like taste and texture, with a satisfying, candy-like bite and about 19 to 20 grams of protein in roughly 200 calories. The deal can land well under a dollar per bar with coupons or Subscribe and Save, and the variety pack is seen as a decent pantry treat. The main drawbacks are the maltitol and sugar alcohol aftertaste, occasional blandness, and some packaging or freshness issues on arrival. A solid value play if the ingredient tradeoffs do not bother you.

  • The coupon and Subscribe & Save discounts can bring the 12-pack to a much lower checkout price.

  • The variety pack can taste close to Barebells while still delivering a similar texture experience.

  • The bars provide about 20g protein per bar at roughly 200 calories, which supports a protein-to-calorie focus.

  • The bars can arrive with a December 2026 expiration date, which helps with longer pantry planning.

  • Sugar alcohols like maltitol can cause gastrointestinal distress, including needing to use the toilet.

  • The coupon instructions can be unclear because the 50% off offer may require buying two without an obvious promo code entry field.

  • Some shipments arrive with packaging problems such as crushed boxes, missing bars, or poor sealing.

  • Some bars can arrive spoiled with fat separation and an off taste, and storage mishandling may be involved.

Artificial flavors, maltitol.Hard pass.
Malitol a sweetener that ferments in your large intestine and draws water and might cause gastrointestinal distress.

I heard too much of it can have a laxative effect. Has never been my experience though and these seem to have a good protein to calorie ratio.
It's likely the maltitol that does that

Add one to your cart. Go to the checkout and select the payment area on the left side about halfway down the screen. You can change the CC or add a discount code. Worked perfectly for me to buy one box at 50% off.

PALM oil, the worst kind of saturated fat. Keep your conspiracies out of here, this type of saturated fat will raise your LDL and put you at greater risk of heart disease. If you are eating protein bars, you care about your health. Avoid these bars except as a very rare treat.
Do not tell this lie, palm oil is not worse for you than butter or any saturated fat derived from animal products

Got to say these things are pretty awesome. I may have over indulged today and had 3 of them. They are large and satisfying (no I didnt eat them at once). That said - I often pay the sugar alcohol price with some of these products but today was fine. Just ordered 2 more boxes while the price is discounted. Not saying the price is low - but the product is a better value than others I have tried.

Doctor here. I agree. Though let people who want to think they are smarter than you buy it anyways. I'm a cardiologist so more business for me!

Why do I always go look at the ingredients to see if they use sugar alcohols? They always do.
Not always the case. Erythritol (I don't believe this specific product contains it) promotes endothelial dysfunction in the cells that form the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Effects include increased oxidative stress/reactive oxygen species, reduced nitric oxide (which helps vessels relax), increased endothelin-1 (which constricts vessels), and blunted release of the clot-dissolving protein t-PA. These changes make vessels more constricted, raise clotting risk, and impair barrier function. This aligns with earlier observational data linking higher circulating erythritol levels to roughly doubled risk of major cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke) and mechanistic studies showing increased platelet reactivity/clotting tendency after a serving. Maltitol, though, is generally considered mostly safe, with mainly gastric upset (maltitol is the worst among the sugar alcohols for this) and a much higher impact on blood sugar than other sugar alcohols. It has a glycemic index of around half of the impact of table sugar, so far from negligible.
