Community Reviews

This 16 inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro stands out for strong everyday performance and unusually generous 32GB of RAM at a low price. The chip still feels fast for browsing, entertainment, and even creative work, and the memory should help with heavy multitasking. Battery reports range from near mint with 45 cycles and 99 percent health to older units still holding around 90 percent. Main cautions are that the listing may be closer to used than refurbished, the 140W charger may cost extra, and long term support and cosmetic wear are real concerns.

  • Creative professionals juggling large projects, because the M1 Pro with 32GB RAM can outperform newer non-Pro models with 16GB RAM at similar prices.

  • Everyday Mac users who keep many browser tabs open, because 32GB RAM can prevent the slowdowns seen on 8GB machines.

  • People wanting a fast daily laptop for several years, because the M1 Pro still feels quick and can hold around 90% battery capacity after heavy use.

  • Basic web and entertainment users, because the machine is still considered sufficient for browsing and media without needing video-editing power.

  • Buyers expecting a complete ready-to-use package, because the listing may omit the required 140W charger and add extra cost.

  • Shoppers who need a pristine cosmetic unit, because the listed condition can mean heavy scratching and visible wear.

  • People wanting the newest platform for long support, because this 2021 model is already several generations old and support may be nearing its limit.

  • Long-term upgraders, because spending on five-year-old hardware may only make sense for a one- to two-year lifespan.

Several things to keep in mind: First, this is not "refurbished", it's used. Nothing has been done to replace, repair, or verify any components other than a wipedown with a damp cloth and basic power test.Second, this machine does NOT come with the required 140w power brick. Only the power cable --- "MAGSAFE" cable. The charger is an extra $99 at "APPLE". Third, this is five year old machine with the "M1" cpu -- first generation of the "M"-series processors. To say it's dated is an understatement, given the current generation is the "M5", with some devices even having an "M6" cpu. Needless to say, future support for this cpu may be limited.Fourth, it's a five year old machine! Even with it being a better-constructed "PROFESSIONAL" tier laptop, fully expect things to be failing or ready to fail. These ultra-thin machines unfortunately run hot, and heat is the enemy of electronics. Five years on a battery is also a long time -- do not be surprised if it starts getting "puffy" (expanding uncontrollably) in the coming years. With all things considered, there are probably fewer years ahead of this machine than behind it.Bonus: The "Allstates" warranty is barely worth the paper its printed on. Fully expect hassles if your machine gives up the ghost in the coming year.
You can buy any usb-c charger with adequate output (assuming you don't already have a drawer full), there's absolutely no good reason whatsoever to buy the OEM Apple one. Yes, it's not free but it's not $100 either. This is roughly on par with a current generation 32gb MacBook Air for about half the price.

psst... its 32 gigs of unified apple ram in there.. about 78 tokens for a 3B model... and. about 28 tokens for an 8B model...67 seconds on image gen for 1024x1024....

for 800 dollars this is a steal for an inference server..

"It's not $100 either"

Maybe in your region it's not $100, but in the US it is.

As for using third party chargers, that's a fool's errand when dealing with expensive laptops. Stick with first party chargers, batteries, and cables -- unless you enjoy troubleshooting "unpredictable results"....but that's up to you.

As for "having a drawer full of them", that's a matter of privilege that not everyone has. It's in poor taste to make that assumption that everyone is in such a situation.

Honestly, this is a ridiculous take. You're putting Apple chargers on a pedestal they absolutely DO NOT deserve. On the front page there is a deal from a 3rd party manufacturer for a charger that is FAR superior to apple chargers for half the price. https://slickdeals.net/f/20060448-anker-140w-4-port-pd-3-1-laptop-charger-silver-55-99-free-shipping?src=frontpage

"ANKER" is the same company as "EUFY" -- which had massive security breaches and violations of customer privacy, which they hand-waved away and tried to gaslight those who found the vulnerabilities. You recommending one of their products lends zero legitimacy to your argument.

Buy third-party power products at your own risk. Especially "ANKER".

$400-450 is a more fair price for this.

It is a better deal than that.
Most important, the MacBook Neo came out less than 1 year ago with a slower processor. So Apple is very likely to continue support for this machine for a long time.

Second, this is less than half the price of a new M5 MacBook Pro.

Three, it is very fast machine unless you're creating advanced software or rendering long videos in a hurry.

Processor speed has little to do with Apple's software support. When the Mac was last sold by Apple has much more to do with continued software support. This is near the end of that.

Why are people pushing an old, used computer so hard? It's weird. Shills?

Tempting because I want a Macbook with 120hz and any modern MBP is $3000-$5000. Yeah, M1 is old, but it was supposed to futureproof/revolutionary when it came out so I can't imagine it's barely chugging along for basic tasks. I wouldn't be buying this to edit video or crazy software. Just looking for a nice screen for web browsing and entertainment.

I had a Mac Mini with M1. Speeds were fine but it had 8gb RAM and you could really feel it slowdown with multiple tabs open. Hoping 32GB rectifies this.

The Macbook "NEO" is an entirely different CPU. It's not an M-series laptop chip, but an A-series mobile telephone chip. Support for one is independent of the support for the other.

As for the price, I'd sincerely hope that a FIVE YEAR OLD beat-up used laptop (with fleabay's lowest grade rating of "Good") is cheaper than the price of a new Macbook "PRO". I mean, imagine if it wasn't...!

And as for the speed of it, I'm not arguing about the performance of the M-series chips. They're solid. If you read my original comment, I never once brought up CPU performance or benchmarks. It's about physical longevity.

I'm not "pushing" it, but I've had one for five years and I know that they still work very well. Given the cost of the new computers, this is a good choice.
