I have the 850 and 1000w version of these. This is a steal at this price. If you need a PSU for a 5090 this is it!

A 1000w should be enough though for a PSU with a 5090 from what I can see.

In that thread though...

"Hey there, Router ero from the SPL PSU tierlist.

The picture explains everything.
Also we don't consider LTT Labs to be a reputable source. Their data is inconsistent with multiple other sources. However they are testing their units is leading to failure of the units at way, way higher rates than any other lab we've seen. Just going by their own data, they are saying that nearly 36% of PSUs they test are failing. I'm not sure what their testing procedure is, but the results are inconsistent at best. We will use some of their data if it's the only source of information on a particular unit, but if multiple other sources corroborate that a unit is fine and they're the only one saying there's something wrong, generally speaking, we won't consider that. In the case of the C1200, we actually have five separate sources for the 1200W model alone and none of them experienced an issue with the protections, so this doesn't make sense."

Just FYI for everyone before you buy -- This unit has a small but definite cohort of people reporting explosions, myself included. Heres a reddit post with others that have seen the same thing:

https://www.reddit.com/r/NZXT/com..._explodes/

I personally got a white version in October of 2024. ATX 3.1 1200W, it ran fine with no issues, until a month ago where the PC shut off. I had to power cycle, and when i started it again, there was a huge POP and explosion of the unit. Luckily there was no damage to other components. The RMA process was lengthy, took about 3 weeks for me to receive the replacement. I had to show a video of destruction of the previous unit, and had a few different case managers. As I had the white version, they had none in stock, so they sent a black one instead. They offered a 150$ refund instead, but I figured I'd give the black one a shot too. I do have a 5090 and am concerned about it possibly exploding again in 2 years, but the first one seemed to have prevented any damage to the other components.

TLDR: YMMV, but mine and many others have had their PSU explode. Looks like there is a shortage to one of the mosfets, which then causes another to then blow up. Either way, in spite of the tier list, I would not recommend it to anyone for any price. Especially if you need 1200W, you probably have an expensive PC, especially in this day and age. Don't risk it, pay a bit more for a different model. Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed that NZXT hasn't recalled or even issued a statement acknowledging this issue, since these units definitely seem to have a limited (around 2 year lifespan). Other than the catastrophic failure, it worked well.

LTT Labs tested two separate C1200 Gold samples, and both failed the same 12V rail over-current protection (OCP) test, a 100% failure rate within that small test group. This is described by LTT Labs as a "catastrophic protections failure," serious enough that they explicitly state they cannot recommend

First, you don't have to say two separate because the two implies that to most people. Second, where did they get these two? Did they buy them at two places? Third, testing two devices does not give enough of a test to say they are bad. How high was the current they introduced? Now if you had said they tested ten of them or even more to give us a better understanding of percentage failures then maybe everyone could make a better decision. Two out of two failures is bad when you only test two, but two out of ten isn't as bad or two out of one hundred.

According to the reddit post (I believe) the overload was 1600w

See Eragorn's post. They're doing something bizarre if they're killing over a third of their PSUs. Probably doing something very stupid since it's LTT and stupid stuff gets them views.
