The box barcode is 718037901305. Now looking closely at the Walmart clearance sticker, the last number is a little distorted, but it could say 718037901300, which would be the 5TB WD My Passport portable drive. When I was at the store they had a hard time with it ringing up correctly, so it might actually be the My Passport at $125, but the clearance sticker does say WDBLACK. Not sure but either one is a good deal.

Not a bad price for 5TB even in pre-AI market, but I believe these are non-shuckable, so don't put anything super valuable on them. If the USB controller ever breaks you're SOL.

Yeah, WD is bad for this. I had an external hard drive fail on me and in the end only part that had failed was the USB port. Desoldering that and connecting it to a regular SATA port, I was able to get my info off of it.

Can confirm that these are non-shuckable the usb interface is directly soldered onto the main control board and there is no sata connection internally.

I have 3 of these and the oldest one is going on 8 years, with no signs of going bad anytime soon. The metal housing is great at helping it stay cool.

I purchased one a while back and it only lasted a few months.

Same, I've had one P10 running 24/7 for 6 years now, trouble free so far.

There is a sata connection you just have to remove 4 capacitors and tap into it

Same here, 4TB version.

Fortunately I was only using it for a disk image backups destination and did not lose anything.

Note the Power On Count and Power On Hours.

And it got worse from there. If I find it, I will plug it in. If it is recognized, I will try and get another CrystalDiskInfo snapshot with worse numbers.

Never again for WD Black P10 Game Drives.
