I have heard about duvet covers for years, and I have asked once or twice for advice on the filler, but have not received much useful information. I guess using duvet covers is like a secret society, where "First rule of duvet covers is you don't talk about duvet covers."

But if I am interested in joining the closely guarded club, maybe I can start with a challenge. Like, "Is it okay to fill a duvet cover with ordinary blankets?" Maybe that would cause an outrage that would give me some replies that contain elements of the truth that I desire. From that point, maybe I could learn some bits of the "secret duvet handshake" and work my way into the club, even if provisionally.

Lmao google duvet insert and you'll find plenty. Could use a normal blanket but it won't have sections for you to tie and attach the cover to. Without tying the cover down the blanket won't stay flat inside.

A duvet insert that can be fastened to the cover is ideal. I had a regular comforter that was sliding around and bunching up inside the duvet cover. You might get away with it though: my current comforter sits nicely inside the duvet cover, unfastened.
