Energy Take Classic is a passive 5.1 speaker system that can sound surprisingly strong for the money, especially in a medium sized room with a proper AVR and subwoofer. The small 3.5 inch woofers lean on the included sub for bass, and the setup has been described as a soundbar killer when paired with receivers like the Yamaha RX V385 or Denon AVR S270BT. The main catch is that no receiver is included, so it needs an amplifier or AVR before it can be used. It is a solid budget surround option if you already have the gear to drive it.

Common Questions (5)

  • No. It is a passive 5.1 speaker-only package, so you need an AVR or amplifier to use it with a TV, computer, or other source. A 5-channel receiver is the minimum for proper surround sound.

  • A budget 5.1 AVR such as a Yamaha RX-V385/RX-V383 or Denon AVR-S270BT is a practical match, and used 5.1 optical receivers can also work if you want to save money. For many older receivers, the original remote is important because some features are only accessible from it.

  • Yes, it can work well in a medium-sized room when paired with a suitable AVR and subwoofer. The small 3.5-inch woofers rely on the sub for bass, but the setup has been used successfully in medium rooms and can outperform many soundbars.

  • With an AVR, it can beat many soundbars, including expensive ones, because it gives you real discrete surround speakers and a separate subwoofer. One comparison also noted that Klipsch Quintet speakers at the same price sounded better, so the Energy set is solid but not class-leading.

  • Not directly. These are passive speakers, so you need an amplifier or AVR between the speakers and the computer or TV to power them and handle the audio channels.

Crazy that they just keep dropping the price on these. We are almost at the point where just a few months ago I was considering buy used ones on ebay for not much less than this.

I wonder how many they have lol. Determines whether I should pull the trigger or wait for 139 I guess.

Wow I can add 8400 to my cart currently... Wonder if that is real lol.

Man, I remember when getting the Monoprice knockoff for $230 was a steal. Granted that was over a decade ago...

How are these selling new still? I got mine in 2015 for like 300 I think, paired with the rx-v383, still sounds amazing in a medium sized room

Yeah honestly I keep trying to find reasons not to. Main one is I LITERALLY already bought a sub on a deal earlier this year for a hundred lol. Haven't even unboxed it yet, been in my dining room for like 4 or 5 months waiting on a 5-7 channel set to go with it and replace my 15 year old ONkyo in a box set

It's near the bottom of the cart page where you enter payment, you have to click some text to expose the fields.

Good find. Regardless of the misleading product title or how long that has been going on, this must be called a 5.1 Channel Home Theater SPEAKER System. There is no receiver included.

Let's correct their mistake here on SD, at least. nod

Even a quick search results in:

Because of the confusing naming, many retailers have actually started listing this specific model as the Energy Take Classic 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System to prevent people from opening the box on delivery day only to realize they can't plug it into their TV.

No, this contains only speakers. You need more equipment to actually make use of the speakers. As my post explains, it should be called a SPEAKER system, not a home theater system.
