The CF 70 towers come across as a crisp, open sounding pair that excels at instrument separation and clear vocal placement, especially with Audyssey tuning. They can fill a small to medium room with strong output, and pairing them with a sub brings the low end closer to full range. The main tradeoff is that the bass does not reach true sub bass punch on its own, so a dedicated sub may still be needed for the deepest kick drum impact. A matching Energy center is also suggested for home theater use.
Common Questions (4)
The CF-70 can play loud and produce strong midbass, but it does not fully reach sub-bass punch. A dedicated .1 sub is recommended if you want truly full-range low end, especially for kick-drum impact or home theater.
These are not current-production speakers; they debuted in 2008 and were discontinued in 2013. That raises capacitor-age concerns for some buyers, but the recap issue is not confirmed as necessary from the comments alone.
Yes, you can use the CF-70s with an existing center like the Polk XT30 and see whether the tonal difference bothers you. For the best TV/movie dialogue performance, a matching Energy center such as the OB CC10 is the more direct pairing.
They sound crisp with a more open soundstage and make it easier to place voices and instruments. The tradeoff is less warmth than some older floorstanders, though they can still deliver strong output at moderate power.

they debuted in 2008 and were discontinued in 2013 according to google ai. Funny you brought this up, I've been wanting to recap my mid 90's speakers for a while. Supposedly film caps can last 30-50 years, electrolytic only 20 years and that's not even taking the electrolytic cap plaque back in the early 2000's into account. Bring out your caps! Lol.

Has anyone bought these and can comment on how they sound? Maybe the whole recap thing is a big nothing burger?
