Nice, but I already have the M18 with 8" bar. Serves my needs very well, clearing brush, pruning and limbing various growth on our rural property. This M12 is a little bit lighter weight & more compact with the smaller battery platform, so I imagine it'll serve others quite well!

HD should stop play discount by ballooning the price $500 for a tiny light chainsaw with battery? A pro one with bigger battery cost much less than that.

Could you be more specific as to what make and model "pro" one so it can be checked out?

Just bought EGO 16" and 6Ah. The MSRP price not discounted is not come close to this.

With chainsaws anything even this small one, you really want the 18/20v (depending on the brand) or higher platforms. I have the m18 version of this and its great. This one will be fine for a couple of light cuts but there is just not a lot of stored total power stored in those small m12 batteries, it'll run out pretty quick.

M18 with an 8ah battery seems to last a really long time though.

This is a pretty good deal with the two batteries included. I paid $132 tool only a year ago. I can vouch that this is a very usable tool and not a toy. Will cut just about anything up to 3" handily. The wife loves it.

I tried the hackzall for some light tree trimming and was disappointed. I still have it for random metal like a nail or screw that the chainsaw won't do. I have the m18 pole saw and it is amazing. I assume this will do great for light pruning.

You should try the M12 with these 5.0 HO batteries. They are powerful and last long enough for what this saw is made for.
M18 8.0AH is 38 oz. That's 2.5x as heavy as these M12 batteries at 15oz. For one-handed use, you'll notice the difference in weight well before the battery needs swapped, especially if working at elevation.

I hear ya. I'm sure it's mostly fine for your average suburban property. My projects are never small though and often I'm a decent distance walk from the house. I do like certain M12 tools but I wouldn't do it on a chainsaw.
