Orient's automatic dress watch stands out for its blue dial, sweeping second hand, and easy strap-swapping style that can read casual or more formal. The movement is automatic, so there is no battery, and the hardened mineral crystal has held up well in daily wear for some wrists. Sapphire crystal is not included at this price, and automatic watches can eventually need service that may cost more than the deal itself. A solid pick if you want an affordable mechanical dress watch with room to dress up.

  • The sapphire crystal option shows strong scratch resistance in day-to-day wear.

  • The watch's automatic movement eliminates the need for a battery during operation.

  • A sapphire crystal Orient survived a hard impact against rough metal with only a fine line.

  • The watch can look casual or more classy after a strap swap.

  • This price point does not include sapphire crystal, which can reduce scratch resistance.

  • Automatic watches can require service or repairs that may cost around $200 or more.

  • The watch uses a sweeping second hand, which may not match preferences for a different second-hand style.

I am an admitted watch-snob. While I'd always prefer a sapphire crystal, I can honestly say I've never scratched a hardened mineral crystal.
I have on my Casio duro it was such a bummer. It absolutely can happen depending on what you're doing. Now my diver with a sapphire crystal I accidentally bumped into a huge rock and had no scratches at all. For a dress watch you're likely safe in most settings.

I have an open heart orient bambino and they are truly the ultimate budget dress watch.

Keep in mind these eventually need service. I have an automatic I got for a good deal, but it's in a box now that it needs repair and that's $200 at least. When repair costs as much as the watch "deal", it's often hard not to just find another deal.

I love automatics, but quartz is cheaper to maintain.

I've been daily driving an orient watch for the last year. I recently installed a high quality blue sail cloth strap and have loved it even more so than before.
