This Ridgid 18V subcompact brushless 1 2 inch impact wrench kit stands out as a compact, lightweight option for wheel swaps and everyday automotive work. It has enough power for passenger car lug nuts, non frozen fasteners, brakes, sway bar links, and even some corroded bolts, while feeling easier to use than heavier impacts. The included 2 amp hour battery makes the kit especially handy. The main caveat is warranty coverage, since the listing shows a 3 year warranty and LSA depends on registration within 90 days.

$99 is a pretty great price this. It's absolutely perfect for swapping wheels on and off - even pretty high torque. (One of my cars' spec is 129 lb-ft.).

It's SO MUCH lighter than my old 1/2" impact.

I have the subcompact 3/8" & 1/2"; mid, and high torque both 1/2" and 3/4" and this 1/2" subcompact is the impact wrench I use 90% of the time. It has plenty of power for non-frozen/ rusted fasteners on the car and commercial mower.

The tools only was $71 a few months back on DTO.

This with the 2ah max output battery is a really nice compact and light weight option.

Does this subcompact have enough oomph to remove lug nuts from passenger cars? That's what I'm getting an impact wrench for so I can rotate my own tires with ease. I'm tired of jumping onto the tire wrench.

I am hoping to wait for a brushless mid torque model to hit the $100 mark.

Should I get this subcompact instead?

Yes, it has enough power to remove lug nuts from passenger car wheels. You can hear it hammer longer than the mid and high torque but it comes right off. If you could only buy one impact wrench, the mid impact would be the best of both worlds where you get power and a small smaller size. For me personally, the smaller lighter weight of the sub compact makes it much easier to use, and I end up using it more often.

Thanks for the info. In reality, I don't work on any project that is significant enough to use mid torque impact wrench. As much as I wanna rebuild engines, I simply don't have time to do anything like that any more.

Maybe I should consider getting this subcompact and call it a day.

I have this in the 3/8 version and I use it mostly for brakes or sway bar links. I also have the medium impact version 1/2 inch and I use that for the suspension of sedans. Both are great.

Torque Test Channel tested out this Rigid a while back and it compared favorably to Milwaukee's M18 offering. It's at YouTube video id gtEj2Sh9SK8.

Deal is back on for September 29 and 30.

I'm changing my mind and getting this, instead of the mid torque. Even with $15 shipping, $99 seems to be the lowest in the last 12 months on a BRUSHLESS, SUBCOMPACT unit. I may be able to sell the 2Ah and the charger if I'm lucky.

Returning my $69 BRUSHED mid torque to HD.

I have the 3/8" and use it for car and truck lug nuts torqued up to 130 ft-lbs, but those are for wheels that I have personally done somewhat recently so they aren't too corroded or over-torqued by a shop gorilla. But surprisingly, it's even worked on heavily corroded exhaust bolts. This little bugger really punches above expectations.
