the roll it accepts seems really small and doesn't fit the ups rolls. you're better off buying a used ZP450 or 500 off offerup for $50-60, those things are workhorses

Do all thermal printer labels fade with time? Are there decent label printers that don't have that issue?

i think its just the nature of the product. heat based printing. i think they are designed for temporary shipping label and/or someplace where it doesnt get hot

You want thermal transfer instead of direct thermal.

I have a few old TLP2844 printers that are still working perfectly after 10 years with me. I bought them used from a medical office when they upgraded.

I'm sure newer models exist.
