Electric blankets are a matter of when, not if, they'll catch on fires -- don't believe me, just ask any fire department.

"Heating pads and electric blankets cause around 500 fires each year. Almost all of these fires involve electric blankets that are more than ten years old."

https://www.esfi.org/electric-bla...revention/

Millions of electric blankets are sold each year. Only about 500 a year cause fires and those are almost all over a decade old.

Yet again, you're wrong. Do us all a favor and stop posting.

That site shows no evidence or data that corresponds with that number. It's literally "Trust me, Bro" levels of statistical significance.

I have extreme doubts the real number is that low, given how many fire departments admonish them routinely. And I'll trust actual firefighters over some site I've just heard of today. But hey, it's your home. Have fun! 🔥

"ESFI is the premier 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety at home and in the workplace.

Founded in 1994 as a cooperative effort by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), ESFI depends on the support of community and industry stakeholders to provide funding for the development of new programs and resources throughout the year. ESFI receives funding from electrical manufacturers, distributors, independent testing laboratories, retailers, insurers, utilities, safety organizations, and trade and labor associations."

And then there is their board:

A bit more prestigious than your anonymous firefighters.

Can't comment on this particular product, but if you've never used a heated mattress pad, but are considering buying one, the rest of this msg is for you:

I live in the Mojave desert, and it gets pretty darn cold at night in the winter, especially when you don't have a heater.

I used to use electric blankets, but besides them breaking constantly, I was always still freezing.

A few years ago, on a whim, I bought a heated mattress pad.

No joke, even on the coldest nights, I can't put the dial past like 3 (i think mine goes up to 9) before I get overheated and have to start sticking feet and legs out of the covers.

Ended up buying one for each of my kids too.

I will never go back to regular heating blankets ever again. Heated mattress pads are where it's at!

I'll always trust boots-on-the-ground actual firefighters over a board of corporate billionaires using this "non-profit" organization as a way to reduce their tax burden. Every single time.
