This Phomemo D421R is a compact thermal shipping label printer aimed at faster daily label printing, especially when compared with taping paper labels or dealing with toner and cutting. The built in label bin and roll storage are appealing for keeping labels inside the machine, and thermal printing avoids ink. The main drawbacks are the lack of Wi Fi, which limits remote packing workflows, and the LCD and percentage display feel more like a gimmick than a must have. Auto detection and the paper level display also depend on Phomemo RFID labels, so the convenience features are tied to specific supplies.
The printer can reduce labor time by printing thermal labels without toner or ink cartridges.
The display and label level indicator can help track remaining roll supply when using RFID-compatible Phomemo thermal labels.
The printer supports practical label workflows using common 4x6 and 4x4 formats from UPS supplies.
The Avery 8126 two-per-sheet label format can be rerun efficiently by leaving backing paper intact after printing one label.
The lack of Wi‑Fi can limit offsite packing workflows because labels cannot be sent from elsewhere.
The LCD completion percentage can be misleading because the visible label output may show a different progress level.
Auto-detection and real-time paper or label level display may not work unless RFID-compatible Phomemo RFID thermal labels are used.
Using aftermarket labels can cause poor print results, and OEM replacements can become expensive after purchase.

Now I'd really like one like this that held the regular roll inside it like the one here. Dust settles on the labels then makes the labels not perfect in my shop.

- Copy paper. 0.025 - 0.05 per label, including the packing tape to cover it.
- Self-adhesive label paper. 0.05 per label, generic.
- This thing. 0.08 per label, generic.
I ship a lot, only 1 and 3 make sense to me unless 2 has a dedicated printer. Swapping paper and configuring label presets is annoying.Sign up for a Slickdeals account to remove this ad.

If you're doing 15 labels daily, I can see the appeal of a thermal printer though as far as labor time and hassle. I do higher price/lower volume sales, so for me it doesn't make sense.
