Why should a metal power strip be considered good? Given metal conducts electricity I would have thought it's a bad choice for these.

Yeah you are right it's a bit counter intuitive.

Metal is connected to ground internally so a live voltage/short will generally trip the breaker. Even better if it's plugged into a gfci outlet.

The actual reason is it's stronger and doesn't catch on fire. (Plastic still provides some fuel even though it shouldn't propagate with proper ul0 listing)

So a partial short in a plastic unit can generate heat and melt, while this one is more likely to trip the breaker, and even when not won't melt.

Personally I don't care much about metal but I do like that this unit because it's basic strip with no usb plug (which are oftentimes what actually fails) and an actual rating.

Personally I don't buy strips with usb outlets. Mixing high and low voltage in same body can be a risk.

Made by some random manufacturer, not Amazon as the title makes you think.

Trying to look like an industrial/commercial power strip. Most heavy duty power strips are metal. The case is a ground, so if something inside shorts out, instead of melting and burning your house down, it grounds out with the case and kicks the circuit breaker. (There's a bunch of other reasons why power strips should be metal too if you're interested. Ask Gemini or ChatGPT).

There are two colors with two lengths of cords. Each color/length configuration has a different base price, which is adjusted by the promo code to one of 4 prices within the posted range.
