I bought this years ago on sale for like $40 when it was like $100 full priced. It's insane to me how expensive things have gotten.

I bought this set when it first came out (20?! or so years ago). I absolutely love this set and it looks great in my bookcase. That said, it's really not a great format for casually reading. Once I had kids, I ended up buying the whole set again in the standard paper back because it's so much easier to read that way (especially for kids). I have no regrets and I don't mind one bit that I've purchased the entire collection 3 or 4 times throughout my life though. Thanks Mr. Watterson!

I've had the exact same experience. They are way too huge and heavy for bedtime reading. But they look beautiful on the shelf.

I would buy this if I didn't already have it. I like how it looks on my shelf.

I found a digital copy of the entire thing, which is much more convenient to read.

welp i grew up with Calvin and Hobbes, i owned all the individual books; i guess its time to actually have the collection on my bookshelf.

Ordered both paper back and hardcover. Why not both?

Same experience as others, looks great on the shelf, a must-have for fans of the series, but not something you are busting out to read regularly. You need to get these 11 in order to have the complete that's broken up into the individual books.

The Essential Calvin and Hobbes (1988)
The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book (1989)
The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes (1990)
The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes (1992)
Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons (1992)
The Days Are Just Packed (1993)
Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat (1994)
The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book (1995)
There's Treasure Everywhere (1996)
It's a Magical World (1996)
Calvin and Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985–1995 (2001)

I wished Mr. Watterson continued to write these or maybe have one book on Calvin having his own family and kids with Hobbes still around.
Was also hoping he would attend some of the Comicons just to maybe have him autograph of my books or this collection.

As everyone here has been saying, this is better for decoration than for actually reading the comics given how unwieldy the books are. If you're interested in having an attractive, complete set of the comics, I highly recommend the Portable Compendium that is currently being published. They're pairs of small format soft cover books that come in a sleeve, and can often be found for $10 or less. There are seven sets (the last of which I believe comes out this month) and the individual books are much better for reading comfortably in a chair or at bed time. And the complete set still looks great on a shelf, but is much more playful and colorful

I have this set, I just think I should give a head's up, it weighs a TON. I mean, I have a lot of books, I never picked up a set of books that was so physically heavy. I bought it because my paperbacks kept falling apart. I guess Calvin would have something to say about nothing being perfect, but I'm glad I have them...

I had the hardcover version but it never got read its too heavy. Just ordered the paperback. Its down to 86. Might go lower over prime day. My target price was under 80 but this was close enough. Reading right now. Really nice. I wish I had my original books.

This is the one to get. The separate ones cost more in the end.

I also bought this years ago. Here are my thoughts and advice:

Pros: Beautifully built; quality pages; all the comics you know and love.

Cons: Unwieldy-sized books. It seems like a good idea until you actually want to pull one out and read it. It's big, heavy, and there are few seating positions to make it comfortable to read.

Alternative: There are seven Calvin and Hobbes Portable Compendiums. These are super convenient and easily accessible. They don't have the grand majesty as this set, but if you want it for actual reading versus putting nostalgia on lock.
Put the compendiums on a watch list as each book frequently goes on sale and you can snag them individually throughout the year. I've bought each compendium for $7-10 over the last year or so.

Oh dang, I literally just typed the same thing. I really should read what is here before I type. 100% to this one!
