Coway's Mighty2 is a compact air purifier aimed at quiet, efficient everyday use, with a new DC motor, a larger filter, and a more modern design. The blue night light is subtle, and the dedicated light control can turn the lights off separately from sleep mode. It has also been praised as effective during wildfire smoke and as a solid long term replacement for aging Winix units. The main caveats are that night mode can shut the fan down more than expected, the light behavior is confusing for some, and replacement filters may cost a bit more.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. The Mighty2 has a dedicated light button separate from sleep mode, labeled under the ionization button, so you can turn the display light off without relying on night mode. If you disable the light, though, all lights stay off, including the daytime indicators.

  • The Mighty2 uses a DC motor, which should make it quieter and more efficient than the original Mighty. It also has a larger, beefier filter and a newer design.

  • Night mode can dim or effectively shut down the fan at night, and the light behavior is tied to the light setting rather than sleep mode. That means it may not run as strongly overnight unless you adjust the settings manually.

  • No. The deal is a "Save $81 at checkout" promotion, so the discounted price may not appear until you proceed to checkout.

  • Yes. The warranty support is described as excellent, with replacement shipping sent quickly after a defective unit shut off after only a few minutes.

Winix C909 vs Mighty2? I've been using 3 of the first generation Mighty units for almost 10 years. They're getting a little rickety but we've been happy for the most part.

The C909 seems iike a better buy at $200.
Winix seems to use bearings that don't last - mine has developed a bearing whine after ~5-6 yrs, and I've seen many others report even less time before they start to get noisy. They're difficult to get into and replace without potentially destroying the motor... so I'm trying one of these.

Other thing is these also have a DC motor so they should be about as efficient as they get.

I got one just now. Pretty sure this is an all-time low price. I was hoping this would come up on sale during this 'prime big deal days' sale.. my ~6yr old Winnix has developed a bearing whirr and I haven't brought myself to try to fix it yet (it's not easy, and it's potentially destructive).

RE: Light - you realise there's a dedicated light button on the Mighty2, separate from sleep mode, right?

People complained about the light on the OG Mighty all the time, apparently never bothering to read the manual or even just read & comprehend the text on the button panel (says "(LIGHT 3s)" under the Ionization button).
Consider me one of those owners of the og Mighty that didn't know the light could turn off. However, I wouldn't ever turn it off. I like sleeping with a tiny bit of light on to see, in case I need to get up for any reason. A nightlight is typically too bright for my wife, but the blue light on the Mighty is the perfect subtle night light for us 😆 Now when the air quality is bad though, that red light is awful and too dim lol. But that's thankfully rare to see.

2 boasts a DC motor that should be quieter & more efficient. The filters, I believe, are also a bit more expensive (but both advise yearly replacement). Both should have cheaper aftermarket options available.

2 also looks more modern / less dated, if you care about that.

The OG Mighty, maybe.

This Mighty2 is new this year, with a DC motor, bigger/beefier filter, and a new design. Lowest it's been til now was $200 back in September.

The OG-OG AP-1512HH could not turn off the light; I own one of these. Its been running effectively 24/7 on medium for the past 10 years but has developed a bit of a rattle at medium speed so I bump it once a while. The other two I own can do the light-off thing.

Can anyone attest to the functionality of these? I have 2 of the bigger Shark (no filter changing) models and I still habe dust in my house. Ran 2 cuisinart 3000 models (the $400) and those filters were 4-d and still had dust. :/

What is the difference between this new and old model? See the outside appearance has no change.

we bought this model at full retail price this summer during the wildfires out west. I consider it a necessary purchase and it works well. this price is great!

Yeah.. my Winix came in pretty clutch. Our AQI around here was in the 500-700+ range at times due to the wildfire smoke. It was pretty bad.

Seems like the Winix is on its way out though after ~6 years, so I figure I'd try one of these with all the bearing whine complaints people have about WInix units after a few years.

Looks like they slapped on their old rounded face plate onto their newer boxy designed filters.

If you live in a city - you can find high quality air filters consistently for $50-$70. Highly recommend doing that instead of buying new.
