These chopped walnuts are mainly useful for baking or oatmeal, but freshness is the big concern. Several comments describe bags that taste old, stale, or rancid, including references to last year's harvest and mixed results from Amazon orders. Fresh bags do arrive for some deliveries, so quality appears to depend on the pack received. Price comparisons also point to better value at Sam's Club or Costco. A workable option if freshness checks out, but not the strongest value on the shelf.

  • Oatmeal eaters who want chopped walnuts for topping, because the nuts can arrive fresh and not rancid.

  • Shoppers who will use the walnuts soon after opening, because freshness can vary and stale flavor shows up in the bag.

  • Buyers who want a small pantry portion, because the 8-ounce bag is easy to store and use up quickly.

Sadly many reviewers got rancid ones. I still ordered as my husband loves walnuts in his oatmeal. Fingers crossed we get good bags.
I wouldn't call them rancid, but the last ones I bought from Amazon did taste old/not fresh.

Not really a good deal. The everyday price at Costco is $9.99 for 48 ounces meaning this 8 ounce bag would only cost $1.67.
Yeah, I bought three bags today.

Where do you see such reviews? I didn't find one.
Mine were delivered yesterday and they were fresh, not rancid.

What was the expiration date on the nuts you just received?

Got them today, all tests are good to me. Yes, not rancid, as you fear-mongers. Yes, saw them at Costco: 3 LB for $9.99 is a better price; yes, I agree.

I'm only seeing $3.09 as the base price, not $2.93

I don't remember. I used them the same day.
