This bamboo cutting board is appealing mainly for the very low price and the large 16 by 12 inch size, with the juice groove adding some everyday convenience. The main upside is that it is a cheap way to get a separate board for meat, fruit, or backup prep. The main concerns are that bamboo can be hard on knives, may need more frequent sharpening, and can warp, split, splinter, or absorb odors over time. A few comments also note that washing and drying care matters a lot, so it is best treated as a budget, short term board.

  • A working coupon code applied to both color options, which makes it easier to buy two boards for separate meat and fruit prep.

  • The board can be treated as a low-cost gamble when warping is a concern, especially if a sharpening stone is kept handy.

  • Some buyers expect bamboo to be better than plastic for short-term use while they decide on a longer-term cutting board.

  • Wood cutting boards can be cleaned with soap and water, which may fit users who prefer simple after-use cleaning routines.

  • Bamboo cutting boards can dull knives faster and may require more frequent sharpening due to hardness, silica, and construction materials.

  • Bamboo cutting boards can warp or split if they are submerged during washing, which can increase replacement and maintenance needs.

  • Bamboo cutting boards can shed fibers after washing, which can force early disposal.

  • Bamboo cutting boards can absorb odors over time, which can make them less pleasant for repeated food prep.

Bamboo is horrible for knives due to the adhesive used in construction as well as the silica content.

Yes, it's cheap, but if it's forcing you to sharpen your knives more often then it's wearing away the metal of the more valuable tool.

As others have said, hardwoods are best but if you don't want wood go with an EVA cutting board like sushi chefs use. It's still going to be pricey but since it's a synthetic material it will be cheaper than an end grain wooden board and you don't end up with microplastics in your food.

All bamboo cutting boards are bamboo fibers glued together. That makes them harder than any other wood cutting board (thus why they're not great for your knives). There's even an argument to be made that if you want to save the edge of your knives that you get a higher-end endgrain hardwood board OR just use the cheaper plastic boards. Just know that if you get the plastic ones, you have to get rid of them as soon as you start getting bad cuts into them that can harbor bacteria and there is the non-zero issue of microplastics.

Nobody wants to eat bits of microplastics in everything they eat. Wood is also more hygienic as natural bacteria living in wood will eat whatever seeps in so you just need soap and water to clean them effectively.
I agree with you about micro plastics, but your logic around the hygenics is a bit off. Wood (especially bamboo) is porous, and there is no "natural" bacteria living in it at this point as it is a finished and treated product. It's not like it was carved directly out of bamboo shoots right after pulling them out of the ground. It is, without any doubt, pressure and heat treated during manufacturing in order to kill any microorganisms. The problem the consumer faces is that they can only be surface cleaned at home, whereas plastic (or steel) cutting boards can be fully sanitized in the dishwasher or by other means.

The strongest part of the claim is that bamboo can dull knives faster than many conventional wood boards.

If you value edge retention, use thin Japanese-style knives, or chop heavily, maple, walnut, beech, or a quality end-grain hardwood board is usually the better primary board.

End-grain construction presents the cut ends of the wood fibers upward—often producing the familiar checkerboard butcher-block look. On a good board, a knife edge can slip between those fibers; the fibers partly close afterward, which is why end grain tends to be both gentler on edges and more resistant to visible knife scoring.
AI, is that you?

The EVA boards will still shed microplastics. The EVA is just softer than the cheaper plastics and will not "groove" on a hard strike like the others so there's less visible knife marks but it doesn't negate the shedding.

How does something not made of plastic shed microplastic?

It IS a plastic. It's in its very name... ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).

Depending on what the polymer's make-up looks like (how much vinyl acetate is in the polymer versus the ethylene), it can be as soft as a squishy foam (used as the footbeds of shoes and flipflops), a rubber (used as insulating material like heavy mats/floor coverings), or as adhesives.

Bamboo is a terrible material for cutting boards, it's too hard so it will dull your knives, and it is absorbent so warping is a matter of when, not if.
What is better then?
