Off hand I worry about heat. I would think you NEED airflow. I have had a few of the docks that the drive stands straight up and down. Those atleast dont trap heat on the bottom. Is there a fan in these? Most oem 3.5 inch cases are well ventilated.

Not sure if this is the Sabrent version..... But I bought a Sabrent one just like this from Amazon a couple years ago, and it would never mount correctly on MacOS.

The stand-up/open-air versions of the Sabrent HDD USB3 docks are much more reliable IMO — I've had multiple of both.

I'm looking for something like this, but without the enclosure where you can also plug into a DVD drive bay externally that's around this price if possible

kingwin 5.25 hdd bay. Its $20. it doesn't have any active cooling and only a single tiny venthole. I modded mine with a dremel to open up some holes. Very tedious, maybe a "step" drillbit would do better, but be careful not to crack it. Not sure of temps yet.

I recently researched every HDD hotswap 5.25 bay on the market and found them all to be junk that will break quickly. The kingwin seemed the least junky, at least until you get to the $100 range, where Silverstone 2-bay 3x HDD hotswap might be good but there aren't many reviews to know for sure.

Drives are too expensive now to not have active cooling on them... Sadly, even the docks that have active cooling are usually poorly designed and you have to mod them yourself to get worthwhile cooling...
