Surprised everything else expensive but tv prices have stayed fairly affordable. Still have my basic 55" 4k Hisense Roku tv from 2019 working or I'd be tempted to upgrade

Because the Smart TV business model is to sell you a box at or below cost that collects a ton of data on your household, viewing habits, and connected network devices. The manufacturer then sells access to that data to convert your one-time purchase into a recurring revenue stream.
