Read the reviews.
A solid majority of the negative reviews are due to people using bad recipes or not following directions.

Read a couple of reviews and it references a common failure of freezing (compressor failure). No thanks.

At $100, it is tempting. But my kitchen is small with limited space to store it. And I'm concerned about cleaning it. Anyone have experience with it? I'm curious about dairy free recipes.

It was pretty easy to clean. Most everything is dishwasher safe too

It looks like you have to disassemble the lid and lever for cleaning, seems pretty simple but could get annoying after awhile. I'm tempted but I donated the last ice cream maker I bought because it was just too annoying to clean all the time lol.

LOL no it's not. Pretty much all the negative reviews says it either stopped working or it's a PIA to clean. Have no idea where you're getting your info from.

I got one of those ice cream units that you have to freeze. Never used it. This seems easier and convenient but my guess is I would use this one about as much. Pass.

It's not often you find a product on Costco with genuinely awful reviews. This is one of them.

I've used this for about five batches of vanilla so far. You can get a surprisingly good vanilla out of just three ingredients (half and half, sugar and vanilla,) and minimal prep. It is made about as inexpensively as it needs to be for household use, but good luck finding anything that works this well for the price point. For my needs, which is the occasional soft-serve craving that comes out of nowhere and doesn't let up until I get it in me, it's a great deal. If you don't know what I'm talking about, if you're happy with a pint of Breyers, don't get this.
