AARP membership is mainly useful for the Walmart Plus discount, gift card savings, and a few extra perks that can offset the fee. The strongest value comes from the $40 off Walmart Plus, 20 percent off gift cards, and occasional daily or monthly deals that can recoup the membership cost. Some also get value from Walmart Plus and Paramount Plus, Consumer Cellular discounts, free virtual programs, online movies, and local event tickets. The main drawbacks are that many benefits feel limited or situational, the offer can be tricky to link on some devices, and cancellation or refunds may be cumbersome.
Common Questions (5)
The membership can be worthwhile if you use the Walmart+ discount and AARP gift-card deals. One breakdown puts the net cost at about $7 per year when stacking single-year pricing, automatic renewal, and credit-card cash back, and gift-card promos can recoup the fee if you move fast.
The most cited useful perks are Walmart+ savings, Consumer Cellular discounts, and AARP Rewards points that can be redeemed for $5 gift cards. Some members also use free virtual programs, online movies, and local event tickets, while other listed benefits may never get used.
The Walmart+ discount is a real perk, but Walmart+ is also reported to run at about 50% off on its own, around $50. That makes the AARP route less compelling unless you also want the other membership benefits.
The Walmart+ link can error on a laptop but work on a phone, and clearing browser cache can also let it go through. Trying a different browser or device is the practical fix.
Cancellation can be difficult if you want a prorated refund, especially after gift cards or other perks change. The membership also runs regularly, so it is worth checking whether the current offer is actually better than waiting.

Carnival was a healthy 10% off back before they discontinued selling them. That said, I've had good luck with cardcash.com, raise.com/GCX and carddepot.com getting 7% or more with the last batch being 8% from carddepot.com. I've never had an issue with any of these platforms and the electronic cards they send.
