Look man, for 113 shipped, I'll 3d print the hinge braces and deal with it. It's a slick deal
Community Reviews
The WH-1000XM5 stands out for stronger sound and noise canceling, with refurbished pricing dropping well below retail through cart offers, watchlist offers, and the COUNTDOWN20 coupon. Free shipping and a two year Allstate warranty add value, and the same coupon also applies to related Sony listings. The main caution is build quality, especially hinge durability, which makes the XM5 feel less robust than some alternatives. It is a compelling refurbished option if you want Sony ANC and can handle the lighter construction.
Commuters who want stronger noise canceling and sound than older headphones, because the XM5 is a huge upgrade for both ANC and audio.
Partners buying headphones for sensory sensitivity, because the lower-priced pair was chosen specifically to help with that use.
Owners who are rough on hinge adjustments, because the build can feel flimsy and break when rotated the wrong way.
XM4 owners expecting a clear upgrade, because the XM5 may not feel worth replacing an XM4 and can even seem like a downgrade on build quality.

The blacks will wind up being my at-home headphones while my XM4s stay in my work bag for the train commute. The silvers will go to my partner to help with some sensory sensitivity.
