This Pulsar dual fuel inverter generator stands out as a 6,000 watt, 240 volt backup power option with remote start, especially for homes, well pumps, mini splits, and outage use. The dual fuel setup is handy for propane storage and avoids some gas maintenance, and the price drew strong interest as a solid value for the wattage. Reported drawbacks include heavy weight at 98 pounds, loud operation around 67 decibels, and some concern about the CO sensor and outlet compatibility. A practical pick if you need higher output and 240 volt capability.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. It has a 240V L14-50R receptacle, and the 240V output is specifically useful for well pumps, small HVAC, EV charging, and whole-home backup through an interlock or inlet. The 14-50 outlet also supports higher amperage than a 14-30 connection.

  • Yes, it has an automatic CO minder/CO sensor. The concern is that the sensor could fail early and be an expensive repair, and it should not be relied on as a substitute for running the generator outdoors at least 8 feet from the home.

  • It can start on propane after a few push-button attempts, and the recommended break-in is about 5 hours at under 50% load followed by an oil change. One setup tip is to use the included oil carefully, since the 34 oz capacity is easy to overfill if poured all at once.

  • It is described as an inverter generator, but the photos look like an open-frame design. Open-frame inverter generators are common at larger sizes, and other listings also identify this model as an open-frame inverter generator.

  • It is reported at about 67 dB and described as very noisy for its size. That level is typical for a larger generator, so it may be noticeable during normal use.

Ugh, a 14-50r for 6,000 watts!

My home can take 14-30, which I would think would accommodate 6,000 watts, https://generatorbible.com/blog/r...cle-guide/.

Why would a 6,000 watt peak generator output via a 14-50?
Its unnecessary as this is under 7200 watts so its likely for convenience for welders and ev charging. Get a 14-30 adapter.

Ordered. Replacing my reliable 7yr old duromax 10kw. This is a good price for a 240v 6kw. 10kw was over kill for my needs it was just wasting gas. I have 3 minisplits in my house now and have completely stopped running the central ac in southern Louisiana. My sense energy monitor tells me my house uses 85% less energy than the average. Indoor temp 73 24/7!
Wow that's awesome. So you have 3 mini splits plus a central heat and air. Do you ever have to run the central system?

Is there something special about that yellow adapter/splitter in a couple of the pictures?

When our power went out, I ran a single cord through the window, plugged a killawatt into it, and then a surge protector into that where I plugged in both of our fridge/freezers. Maybe that wasn't ideal though...

Any fear the CO sensor will fail early and be a costly repair?

That's my worry also but too much hassle to find a generator without them unfortunately. So I pulled the trigger.

Hopefully I can figure out how to bypass the CO sensor. Other than that sensor this looks great.

Have been waiting for this to go on sale: https://www.costco.com/p/-/diehar...4000409272
It is confirmed to be Pulsar in disguise.
This deal of course beats any potential sale prices on the Costco one. Plus 6KW vs 5KW, which probably not quite important for me.
The only problem is weight. The DieHard is 59.5 lb. This one is whooping 98 lb. Damn! Why?!

Think I'm in for one on this. Multiple times we've said we've needed one, in dealing w/ east coast hurricane season, and the dual fuel option on this is nice, as I've already got about 4-5 propane tanks for grills, etc. and using it on propane knocks out a lot of the gas maintenance headaches...plus the price is pretty damn good.

And of course, non-emergency use for tail-gaiting or what have ya.

This one outputs 240v and the extra weight is better components.

Could be shared components from bigger units. ie costs.

1st mini split was installed 11 yrs ago in bonus room. 2nd was installed in our living room last year. The second one cooled the family room and kitchen all day and night. We only turned on the central unit before bed to cool the bedrooms. We installed 3rd one in the master a month ago and last week I installed a 4th in my daughters bedroom. The bedroom units only run in the evening and night when the room is occupied on the weekend. Only using the central unit during winter, its a gas unit and is much cheaper. Each minisplit averages 100-200w vs 3.5kw for the central unit. This inverter genset purchase is for hurricanes and outages. I have ran my minisplits on my duromax and it was fine.. but inverter is better than dirty power. I run my entire home except the central unit with the duromax. I install all of the minisplits myself so the value prop is great.

That splitter is exactly what you need for multiple high current devices.
