everything on amazon and temu has this look, the black metal bars/framing and the fake wood surfaces. it's so weird to go into other people's houses and see they have the same stuff. we are all getting everything from these two or three sources. we're just little piggies being shoveled the same cheap shit because we are priced out of nicely made stuff with better materials and designs with more character because the cost of living is too damn high

No difference than everything else in life. Theres only so many different car brands and models. Same TVs everywhere. Furniture and food brands from Costco. IKEA furniture. Ashley Furniture. Anything you see mass produced is only worth mass producing in the thousands so they can be affordable.

So how many times have you seen this at your friend's house?

About once or twice. 😆

Handmade items are worth it!

I'm cheap as hell and I don't have a single piece of furniture that looks like this and if I did that would be fine. You have more choice for cheap furniture than there's ever been, and if you want something absolutely unique go pick up some wood and make it yourself.

not this specific item but I've seen furniture items similar to this in several different homes. we're all getting the same stuff from the same places. i understand your other point but the variety of choice is narrowing even for the mass produced things. it is a consequence of a culture that has become accustomed to the simplicity of ordering things online and having it delivered in two days; that's the trade we are making: simplicity for quality and character, and The Powers That Be are too happy to sell a million of these things within that model. it is what it is, I've just seen this type of furniture in too many places and it makes one think about all of these societal mechanisms.

ok, you are one data point. true, you can buy cheap junk furniture anywhere and maybe it looks different than this, but what I am saying is I continue to see this in people's homes. of course it's "fine" but it's depressing to realize we are all sucking from amazon's teat, or the same few chinese factories selling the same stuff on amazon/walmart/temu/wherever - perhaps even worse knowing there actually IS more choice than ever but everyone still ends up buying the same stuff with black metal frames and fake wood surfaces.
