Thanks OP. Great deal.

FYI that for those that have a GovX discount/account (government and first responders), there's actually a $30 discount code there so the total is $40 plus tax. But the $50 price is great as well.

For anyone curious, this is ATSC 1.0 and does not support ATSC 3.0. But with all the drama around DRM and ATSC 3 that may be a positive

You'd get the same amount of channels that you would get if you plugged an HD antenna directly into your TV, with caveat #2 below. The Tablo however provides three distinct benefits:

1. It has a built-in DVR so you can record 50 hours of content - no monthly subscription
2. You can place it and the antenna anywhere (I.e. closer to a window) and then stream the content wirelessly to your TV, so you might be able to get more channels than you would have by having to plug that antenna directly into the TV.
3. It has a better menu than most TVs do

As implied above, you do need an antenna with a coax connection. It can be any antenna off of Amazon or Walmart. From my understanding, the one that Tablo sells in their "bundle package" is a pretty basic $20 antenna so it is not worth the $30 premium.

Also regarding what channels you will get, you can go to this website and put in your zip code and it will give you an approximation and recommend the type of antenna you need. There are a lot of factors but this will give you an idea.

I already have the legacy 2-tuner with lifetime subscription. Is this worth upgrading to?

The code also works for the 4-tuner version, $89.95 after $20 off.

Depends on where you live, your reception and your antenna. I get about 40 OTA channels but get like >100 FAST channels, Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television. I can also record the majority of those, so are blocked from recording. I have a 2Tb HD connected to mine and have a ton of stuff recorded.

So it worked without the antenna? Still waiting for my membership to be approved but the site says works on the with antenna products.

It does work on the antenna product as well but that is $30 more, and the antenna is probably only worth $20, so it's better to get it without the antenna. Any coax antenna will work.

Go to https://www.antennaweb.org/ and put in your zip code and it will recommend what kind of antenna to get.

How is playback managed? Have to use a 'Tablo' app on your TV, or some form of casting??

Was interested in this as a tivo alternative since their writing is on the wall, but know this is over a network, so channel changes are probably laggy. Google AI seems to suggest the zapper box m1 as an alternative. Pricier than tablo and requires a guide subscription $30/yr or $300 lifetime on top of that.
