Lexivon torque wrenches are positioned as a solid DIY set, with the 1/2 inch drive best for wheels, lug nuts, suspension, and other high torque jobs, while the 3/8 inch covers most under hood and brake work and the 1/4 inch fits smaller bike or small engine tasks. Long term use and recent purchases describe the 1/2 and 3/8 as accurate, durable, and handy for casual maintenance. The main cautions are that the click can be faint on some units, the adjustment increments feel coarse, and accuracy concerns have shown up in outside testing. A practical pick if you want the right drive size for common garage jobs.

Common Questions (4)

  • Use 1/2" for wheels, lug nuts, suspension, and other high-torque fasteners because the longer bar gives more leverage and covers higher torque needs. 3/8" is better for many under-hood jobs, while 1/4" is mainly for small fasteners and bikes.

  • The 1/2" and 3/8" models have held up well for years in DIY use and are described as accurate for routine work. A caveat is that the 1/2" model in Project Farm testing reportedly finished last and showed up to about 10% error on a 50 lb test.

  • Set the torque wrench back to 0 before storing it so the internal spring is not left under tension. That helps avoid wearing out the spring over time.

  • Yes. The dual-scale version means both metric and imperial markings are included.

Which size should I use if I want to start working on basic car stuff, like torquing down my wheels after installing a wheel lock?
1/2" for high torque stuff. My lug nuts require 150 lb.ft. for example. But a 3/8" is great too for other stuff. I just did brakes on my car and used both a 3/8 and 1/2. You can get a 3/8 at Harbor Freight for about 15 or 20 bucks that works fine for occasional use.

I wanted to torque spark plugs and oil / tramission pans and fasteners, but they are only under 20 lbs torque. Any reccomendation for lower lb torque rachet? Thanks!

It looks like WLNWP47J no longer works. I got the 1/2" with the other code and then tried to get the 3/8" also, but this code wouldn't work with multiple attempts. Maybe I need to wait a bit before trying it again, but YMMV.

I have the 10-150lb. 1/2" Lexivon. No complaints, just using it so far on lugs. Project Farm tested the 1/2" lexivon listed here, came in last place. Granted it was by far the cheapest wrench tested, but on the 50lb. test it was as high as 10% off, on what I recall was on four of the seven cycles done at 50lbs. Yikes!

how are these vs the harbor freight model?
you can get both the 3/8 and 1/2 harbor freight for the price of one of these. My HF torque wrenches are going strong after 10+ years.

1/2 for tires and most suspension. 3/8 would not be good for that.
