Lexivon torque wrenches are positioned as practical DIY tools, with the 1 2 inch drive best for wheels, suspension, and other under car work, the 3 8 inch for most engine and brake tasks, and the 1 4 inch for smaller fasteners and bike work. The 1 2 and 3 8 models are described as accurate, durable, and easy to use, with long term use on lug nuts and track cars. The main cautions are that the 1 4 inch has a reported click failure, the adjustment increments feel coarse, and the promo price can require refreshing the Prime product page.

Common Questions (5)

  • Use 1/2" for wheels, suspension, and other large fasteners where extra length and leverage help; 3/8" fits many engine and general automotive jobs; 1/4" is best for small fasteners, bicycles, and small engines, especially when you need inch-pounds rather than foot-pounds.

  • Yes, the 3/8" can handle many car tasks up to around 100 in-lb and even higher specs like 129 ft-lb lug nuts, while pickup-truck and suspension work often pushes into the 140-175 range where 1/2" is more appropriate. The longer 1/2" drive also gives more leverage under the car.

  • The 1/2" and 3/8" models are reported to work well for DIY and casual maintenance, with the 1/2" especially useful for tire lug nuts. The 3/8" is also used for tire rotations, struts, and even 129 ft-lb lug specs.

  • Yes. Returning the torque setting to 0 after use is recommended so the internal spring does not wear out during storage.

  • The 1/2" model has been bought for about $49 in the past, so the current Prime price is in line with prior purchases. The deal can also require refreshing the product page to show the exclusive Prime price before checkout.

Bought the 1/2" 5yrs ago and it's been fantastic!! Very high quality. I tracked my IS-F at CoTA and wrenched on it a lot before having kids, so it got a lot of use! Getting the two smaller ones to replace my HF cheapies. Thanks OP and repped!!!

Wheels and large fasteners 1/2 is better and you will need more than 100 ft lbs on heavy duty fasteners like bumpers and frames and suspesion on trucks.
Engine work is often 3/8 but aluminum and small fasteners you may need less than 20ft-lb this one specs down to.
Bicycles and small engines you want a 1/4 that is scaled in IN-LB (not Foot Pounds) or N-M.
Is the drive size or the max torque supported what makes the difference on what the wrench can be suitable for? If I get the larger one does it allow you to set it to something lower to cover all the use cases? This is one of those tools it feels like I should have handy but don't have an immediate use case for...

I have the 1/2 and 3/8. They work great for DIY, casual maintenance stuff. 1/2 especially works great for tire lug nuts. Just make sure you're set them to zero before storing them.

Which size should I use if I want to start working on basic car stuff, like torquing down my wheels after installing a wheel lock?
3/8 is fine. I use 3/8 to rotate my tires and torque lugs to 129ftlbs(Tesla spec) all the time. Also use it to torque struts and aftermarket offroad bumpers etc.

I have one of these. They work well! Remember to bring the torque setting back to 0 when you are done so you don't wear out the spring.

Bought the 3/8 Jan 2022 $33 but its the 10-80 ft/lb. The 1/2 i bought in August 2021 for $49 so not bad at current price (same ft/lb).
