This window mount is a simple way to place a Wyze Cam OG, v3, v3 Pro, or v4 on glass for daytime viewing and backup street monitoring. It holds up well over years of use when the placement is right, and the camera can be moved when the window opens if it sits on the ledge near the locks. The main limits are the single set of adhesive pads, possible loosening from temperature changes, and poor nighttime performance from IR reflections on glass. It works best with the camera front parallel to the window.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes, it is made for Wyze Cam OG, v3, v3 Pro, and v4. It works best when the camera front sits parallel to the glass, and fixed-angle or tilted setups may need a different mount.

  • Not reliably if the camera is inside facing a dark area, because the IR LEDs can reflect off the window and block the outside view. Turning off IR can shift the problem to room reflections; the mount works well in daytime, but nighttime use through glass is the main limitation.

  • Motion detection still works without a subscription, but human or AI detection requires a cloud plan. Without a subscription, motion events also have a 5-minute cooldown between captures.

  • Only one set of adhesive pads is included, so placement matters. If you may need to open the window or move the camera later, mounting on the ledge near the locks can be a more flexible option.

  • It can loosen with temperature swings, and one OG camera reportedly fell out as the mount expanded and contracted. Adding tape around the camera made the fit tighter and improved retention.

The main issue at night is that if you have the camera inside, facing a dark area outside through a window, the camera's IR LEDs create a reflection on the glass, therefore, you do not see outside. You can turn off the IR, but then the room's reflection becomes the main thing you see in the footage.

You can also turn off all the lights inside the room, but then you have to wonder why you bought a night-vision camera plus this mount in the first place if you have to disable both the IR and the room lights.

This has been an issue with V2, V3, and V4 cameras that I've tested. V4 has very good night vision, though. I can place it in the garage and still see the street behind the garage windows, with the streetlights on.

The mount itself works great during the day. However, you can also use tape and get almost the same result without spending any money.
I have never had the IR LEDs on and never needed them to. I have the camera in my office behind a blind and it points out to the street. Truth be told I have a top of the line Unifi camera system around my house with cameras like G6 PTZs etc and the footage from my cheapo Wyze is better, especially the color night vision and this camera is pretty old, maybe a V2. I would never rely solely on a camera like this mounted inside as my primary security camera, this is just a backup camera that records anything that comes down my street 24/7.

Non subscriptions have a 5 minute cooldown between any motion detection.
That's certainly true (and is annoying!), but ... is it in response to anything I said?

thanks in for two.. 8% off with slow shipping which give me more time to include more Prime Day deals.. I feel a little guilty with single items out in the sticks. I love Wyze cams, no subscription needed and I have some sketchy neighbors. I needed a good excuse to clean my lower windows.

Weird -- I've got some v1, v2 and v3 cameras running, and I just checked my bandwidth charts -- the very busiest one is a v3 and is averaging 80 bytes/second in and 2400 bytes/second out. (Note that I said bytes, not KB, MB or GB.)

So that works out to 7 MB/day in, 200 MB/day out -- more than I would have guessed, but still tiny.

(And the others are averaging a lot less. It's also curious that the busy one is busiest by far at night -- I think that's because it's getting shadows through the trees from a street light, causing lots of motion.)

And yet I do have motion detection on all the cameras. But they don't have *human* detection, which is something that they promise with a cloud subscription.

I don't have a cloud subscription -- so that's probably the difference right there. But the motion detection they do have internally does work fine.
Reflecting what stridhiryu03 said, if you don't have a sub (and you're using v1 thru v3) that means you don't have AI motion interpretation (person, car, dog, etc.). And you have a 5-min cooldown to boot. So, data consumption for cams without Wyze sub services should be small.

what type of windows do you have?

I don't have this issue at all.
