Monoprice open box and B stock audio gear is drawing attention for steep discounts on subwoofers, speakers, and home theater amps, with the MM 5R, M 12, and M 10 deals standing out. The value looks especially strong when shipping stays reasonable, and the standard five year replacement warranty is still attached to open box items. The main drawbacks are shipping damage and heavy, awkward subwoofer deliveries, with some units arriving reboxed or with broken grills. A few amps and subs also raise reliability questions, so the appeal is strongest when the discount offsets the risk.
Home theater buyers wanting a powerful subwoofer for the money, because the M-12 can deliver comparable performance at a lower price with the same five-year warranty as new.
Speaker hobbyists comparing dome and ribbon tweeters, because the MM-5R open-box price is unusually low and the MM-5 has been a daily driver for years.
People who need a subwoofer that is ready to use out of the box, because a unit can arrive with a broken grill and enter protection mode after a few minutes.
Buyers depending on long-term support for discontinued amplifiers, because the product has not been made in almost two years and amp failures may be hard to resolve.
They can arrive in good working condition, but shipping damage is a real risk on these heavy subs. One Mono 10 arrived reboxed and worked fine, while another M-10 v2 arrived with torn packaging, a broken grill, and a repeatable protection-mode issue.
Yes. The open-box items are stated in the product Q&A and included paperwork to carry the standard 5-year replacement warranty, the same coverage as new.
The M-12 at about $600 after shipping is described as still reasonable, and the Move50 code can put a unit around $500 plus shipping, below the prior $600 price. The value case is strongest if you want the performance and warranty, but shipping can erase some of the savings.
The MM-5R open-box price is described as the lowest seen, and the set was bought for $50 off. The MM-5 silk dome speakers are also described as long-term daily drivers, with the Ribbon 5R being the comparison target.
Yes. One buyer notes Monoprice has labeled older merchandise as open-box to clear inventory, and a Mono 12 open-box purchase from that period still worked well years later.
$500 plus shipping with the Move50 code is still below $600
You wont find anything with that same level of performance for that price
same warranty as new...5 years
The other part is
I have seen manufacturers label things as open box to move older merchandise and not have to price adjust
I have bought Mono 12 open box before...the V1 variety( for $407 free shipping), right after they released the V2
When I got it I certainly didnt think it was really an open box
2.5 years later it still works great
Website says "This Open Box product comes with a 90-day Limited Product Warranty." Where did you find 5 year warranty?

Same warranty as new but the product is discontinued and hasn't been made in almost 2 years. Not sure how they will handle amp failures on these. There is a class action lawsuit spinning up over the amps…I thought this was a great deal (for an M10) and ultimately passed. To each his own!

Looks like they have spare amps for sales if you scroll down
Not sure where you are obtaining information that these products havent been made in almost 2 years?
To that end ..if what you say is true they may just offer you credit towards another future purchase
Which for the $345 I paid ( all in) considering the performance , I am good with
Thats probably why the M10's sold out so quick..it was truly a steal IMO
I have the M10 V1 that I run in a secondary home 5.1 system with some Ker R metas and a Marantz Cinema 30 and I am impressed
I have owned that M10 V1 for years not and no issues

The posting says "Monolith Home Theater Amplifiers from $166.74". Unless that was for open box / refurb and they are all gone that seems wrong. I could really use a 2 or 3 channel power amp for under $300 but they all seem to be excluded.
I grabbed an M-10 v2 and it has been very impressive ... BUT it arrived damaged and is not properly functional. The box arrived with both sides torn nearly top to bottom with both the sub and the grill protected only by their cloth bags. The Monoprice labels were on the inside of the box so I believe the previous owner either didn't like the sub or had the protection issue I had and returned it after tearing down the box and putting it back together inside out. Nearly ever place the cardboard was bent is torn from the cardboard not wanting to be bent the other way. The grill is completely broken through and unusuable as-is.
The sub initially appeared to work properly but then I saw the LED blinking red/green/red/green after a few minutes of usage. That behavior is not listed in the manual at all, but appears to be a protection mode of some form, requiring 45 seconds of power off to reset. The behavior is consistently repeatable with ~ 3-5 minutes of function before going into protection regardless of the volume level it is played at. I've contacted Monoprice but I'm not hopeful. The box was so damaged it wouldn't have been accepted by any shipper if I decided to (or I'm forced to) return it to Monoprice.
I'll update here once I'm further through the process.

Sorry to hear you are having that experience. Can you share a picture of the condition of the sub? I was considering buying one but took too long…

Its been a few years since I bought one of these
I forgot how heavy they were and I had to get it up a flight of stairs..it was interesting
Unit looked clearly reboxed
But inside everything was good and the sub seems to work fine
I assume you are looking at the Mono 12?
