Meross's smart garage opener is a WiFi relay that adds app control, door status, and scheduling to older garage door openers, with strong Home Assistant, Siri, Google, and Apple Watch integration in the right setup. Long-term reliability is a standout, with multiple reports of years of trouble free use and easy installs on older Chamberlain, LiftMaster, and Craftsman units. The main catches are compatibility checks, 2.4 gigahertz WiFi, and extra sensor or adapter steps on some models. Cloud dependence and uneven Apple Home or Google Home behavior also come up, so it works best when the opener and ecosystem match.

  • The wired sensor wiring is described as easy, and the app can report open or closed status.

  • The device supports timed close and door-open notifications for practical automation.

  • The LAN setup with Home Assistant has stayed connected for years without dropping.

  • Meross support reportedly provided a needed adapter for HomeKit setup after replacing the garage opener.

  • The WiFi setup requires 2.4GHz-only support, which may force router band splitting for consistent configuration.

  • The cloud/internet dependency can be a risk if Meross changes services or becomes unavailable.

  • Apple Home integration can be hit-or-miss, so the Meross app may be needed instead.

  • The MSG150HK version reportedly does not support Genie garage door openers.

One of the best WiFi garage door openers I've had. MUCH better than the MyQ thing that was super unreliable. This one almost always works. I have the HomeKit version which also gives me a button on my Apple Watch face to simply tap or it works in CarPlay and pops up on my screen when I get close to the house.

Just moved into a house with Liftmaster MyQ units. MyQ is total junk, support and AI are both very inconsistent on what models require. Did a bunch of endless fudging around only to find out I need some other WiFi hub thing for a unit that already has a huge MYQ emblazoned right on the side. I picked up the Meross MSG150 since it is compatible with the yellow learn button. Super easy setup and don't need a separate door open sensor!

Not being rude here but you should check your garage motor model with ChatGPT or Gemini at least. This thing works with a garage opener from the 90s but ChatGPT wasn't sure if it would work with the myQ enabled door I have. I haven't given it my model number yet

Had this when I bought my house from the last owners. Did not like it as was not compatible with hubitat and other devices. Meross is also cloud/internet dependent. If Meross goes out of business or obsoletes your device then it will stop working.
The better one is the Tailwind iQ3 Smart Automatic Garage Door Controller. It can work without internet over wifi directly to your controller hub. Does not need to phone home to a server somewhere else.

Do yourself a gigantic favor and get the newer MSG150 instead. Those do not need a separate door state sensor install, and are thus much more reliable.
I was also thinking about the sensors which are additional wires you have to run, but how does the MSG150 know if the door is open or not?

I've had the Homekit version of this for several years and it's always worked great. When I replaced my garage door opener this summer I realized it didn't work with this smart opener using a direct wire method after running the setup wizard. When the wizard completed it said I needed an adapter (basically a garage door opener remote that gets hard-wired) and Meross sent one out for free.

Definitely a great value that the company supports
I have been using the older model with my 2008 garage door opener, and I know for a fact it can also work with my super old 40 year old door opener, as long as shorting two wires open the door, this is what it does, just shorts them and makes connection to open the door.
My biggest issue with these is that you cannot add keypad, does homekit help with that in anyway? I really just want to be able to add a keypad to my door opener and most door companies want $500-$600 for new door opener installed. Opener prices at home depot range from $125 to $300 and $300 is the most powerful 1hp ones with everything, so I don't know why it costs $300+ to swap existing door opener, but I guess that's the market?

So this does work with Apple? How does this connect to the garage door? Is there a plug in region for this module? Sorry to ask so many questions. This product looks interesting.

Just an FYI. I added this to my 16 year old garage door opener and it worked like a champ. I use my GM EV google voice control to open it while driving. However if you upgrade from Google Assistant to Gemini it won't work anymore.

This works with all garage openers. It works with MyQ openers too, but with a little extra step. You have to get the hard wired button to reroute the command. I bought mine on ebay for $10 and got it to work easily. Per the user above, looks like you can contact Meross and they will send you the part needed. It works so much better and more reliable than MyQ. I have 3 doors controled by this device or a similar version.
Nice! I'll give it a shot. Never thought I'd need an extra button but good thing they send them out.

If your garage has its own opening sensor, it's already connected to the garage unit by a wire. The 150 just connects directly to this terminal to read whether the door is open. I just hooked this up about a week ago.

Oh I see that's convenient. No I don't have sensors. Do normal garage doors have open and close sensors?
