Meross's smart garage opener is a WiFi relay that adds app control, door status, and scheduling to older garage door openers, with strong Home Assistant, Siri, Google, and Apple Watch integration in the right setup. Long-term reliability is a standout, with multiple reports of years of trouble free use and easy installs on older Chamberlain, LiftMaster, and Craftsman units. The main catches are compatibility checks, 2.4 gigahertz WiFi, and extra sensor or adapter steps on some models. Cloud dependence and uneven Apple Home or Google Home behavior also come up, so it works best when the opener and ecosystem match.

  • The wired sensor wiring is described as easy, and the app can report open or closed status.

  • The device supports timed close and door-open notifications for practical automation.

  • The LAN setup with Home Assistant has stayed connected for years without dropping.

  • Meross support reportedly provided a needed adapter for HomeKit setup after replacing the garage opener.

  • The WiFi setup requires 2.4GHz-only support, which may force router band splitting for consistent configuration.

  • The cloud/internet dependency can be a risk if Meross changes services or becomes unavailable.

  • Apple Home integration can be hit-or-miss, so the Meross app may be needed instead.

  • The MSG150HK version reportedly does not support Genie garage door openers.

Tip for anyone that doesn't feel like running the sensor all the way to the garage door. You can double side tape the wired sensor to the rail close to the opener, and zip tie the magnet to the belt/chain. Picture showing the sensor when garage door's closed. Been flawless since 2022.
Can confirm this being a reliable install method, have had a trouble free 4 years using it.

So this does work with Apple? How does this connect to the garage door? Is there a plug in region for this module? Sorry to ask so many questions. This product looks interesting.
I'd like to know, too. I have an old door opener & a clicker, so none of it's WI-FI. No clue if it'll work as I'm clueless about this.
Any input would be appreciated, t y.

This loooks like a great hack, can you please elaborate or show a better picture on how you did this? i ordered one as i hate myQ now!
It's quite simple, first identify the side of rail that belt/chain is traveling away from the opener when garage is opening. Tape the wired sensor behind the carrier so the carrier won't hit the sensor when opening the garage door. Zip tie the magnet onto the belt/chain. Attached 2 pics hopefully answers your question. Let me know, I can take a better pic tomorrow.

It works if iPhone via Meross app if that's what you mean. As for installation, it has wires that connect to where wall switch wires connect to. Once you open the garage door from app, it sends signal as if you're pressing the wall button. The sensor tells the app if garage door's open or closed. You can check if you're opener is compatible on their website. https://www.meross.com/en-gc/comp...oor-opener

This is intended for old door openers, you obviously need to have wifi at home. I used it on my 20 years old Lift Master till the opener dies. See my previous reply on how it works, and make sure to check compatibility.

If you have two garage doors on separate switchs/openers - can two of these units sit next to one another - is there a means to separate them in App and not have the signals cancel or get confused?

I don't have 2 of these, but I assume it should be fine. The wireless signal is only WiFi, I think it acts just like WiFi plugs which doesn't interfere next to each other and should be able to identify each in the app. What's controlling the opener is the wires going to the opener.

Your question remains me that you should place the unit away from the opener wire that receives clicker signal. I think it does interfere with the clicker, making the clicker intermittent. I had that issue when I first installed it, moving the unit to the top of the opener solved the issue.

I have two of them installed in my 2 car garage, and they're recognized as separate openers in the Meross app and named separately. They're WiFi, so they each receive distinct IP addresses via DHCP. They're about 6 feet away from each other on my matching old Craftsman (Chamberlain) openers.

I have 3 WiFi access points in my house, so no issue getting signal, obviously YMMV if you're running an ISP provided wireless router far away from the garage.

BTW these integrate nicely with Home Assistant; I have an automation set up to turn on a red warning light in the house if either door is open.

I have a very old garage door opener. It says Crusader model 200 ss (solid state).
I'm not sure if this would work. I've emailed them. Does anyone have this gd opener?

So I like this tech but may pass. Can I ask you - do these also tell you the state of your garage doors - i.e. Open or Closed?

There's a simple test you can do to see if this will work for you. If you don't mind climbing up to your opener, check the back of the opener, there's usually a place to screw wires. Find the 2 screws that your wall button wire or receiver wire screw into. Using a paper clip or a wire and contact both screws. If your garage door opens or closes, the device will work for you.
