They may have gotten better since I last installed one, but a Yale/August lock - especially with HomeKit or Zigbee integration - had the most painful set-up process I've encountered in a long time.
The apps (yes, multiple) are confusing, contradictory, and buggy. At one point, I had to borrow a friend's brand new iphone to use the app at all, while my 2-3 y/o phone would get stuck in an endless software loop. Same app, same OS.
Once they're up and running, they're decent....slow to react with HomeKit but it works. I can lock and unlock doors from anywhere with an internet connection.
You can also give people different codes, so you can log when people come and go, restrict people to certain times (in-laws who show up unannounced <_<, maintenance workers or cleaners, etc.) and you can set the locks to automatically lock/unlock when you leave/arrive, based on location services and/or Bluetooth.
Personally, if I were to buy a "smart" lock, it would have a touch screen with rotating numbers, so people can't watch your movements and extrapolate your passcode.
I would also advise people to install an additional, traditional keyed dead bolt.
Batteries drain quickly. 1.2V rechargeable batteries don't have enough energy to last more than a few weeks. Alkaline batteries can get you 6 months, in warmer climates. Cold weather? Don't bother.

I don't have this lock but do have 4 other WiFi/Zwave/zigbee locks that use AA's. I use Eneloops and they last 4-6 months depending on usage. The only way I could see only getting a few weeks would be if the lock motor is seeing very high usage every day (probably 15-20 times a day). Mine typically get used 4-6 times a day on average.
