Dungeon Crawler Carl is a fast, funny sci fi fantasy series that shines in audiobook form, with a narrator praised as exceptional and a live action TV adaptation on the way. The hardcover editions add value through exclusive end of book short stories, including Backstage at the Pineapple Cabaret, and the books are described as great for the shelf. The series also carries graphic language, sex jokes, and a foot fetish running gag, so it skews adult. It is a long commitment at 8 plus books, with Book 3 a common stumbling block before the story picks up again.

  • The series can be a strong fit for audiobook listeners because the narration is praised highly.

  • The hardcover editions include exclusive end-of-book short stories that add lore for later installments.

  • The buy 2 get 1 free deal can work for mixing and matching with The Expanse hardcover books.

  • The deal can be especially appealing for readers who want to continue from book two through the remaining volumes.

  • The commitment level can be high because the series runs 8+ books and may not suit casual readers.

  • The series contains graphic moments, strong language, and spoiler risk from related shorts content.

  • Book 3 can be difficult to get through, even though the series may improve afterward.

  • The hardcovers may not match the original e-book cover art that some readers prefer.

The narrator may be the best narrator ever. I don't love the "we are bob" books like the other commenter recommended, they were... not bad, but Project Hail Mary is exceptional. Fun movie, spectacular book. And they rarely contain humor (though they do), but the Red Rising series is probably my #1 sci-fi book series ever. Worth a listen if you have credits sitting around.

If you want humor, read The Devils by Joe Abercrombie. It's hilarious plus a good audiobook listen. The narrator is great.

It's fine as a book, it's good/better as an audiobook. But, ask yourself, "How committed am I to a series to get the whole picture?"

There are 8+ of these books to get to the bottom of the dungeon.

Unless you read 36 books a year, or are comfortable with this being your only thing for a long time, this probably isn't for you. I read a ton and it's a fun romp, but there's no way I would recommend most people committing the time required to this material.

Think TV show spanning 8 seasons that could have been one 3 hour movie.

Fantastic series, but the fandom is becoming a REEEEAL circle jerk out there. Highly recommend the books, approach the fandom with hesitancy.

I'm trying, but the thought of listening to someone basically narrating a game is a tough sell for me. I noped out of Ready Player One for the same reason.

I was at a local author event, and Dungeon Crawler Carl was recommended to me. The series is currently free on Kindle Unlimited. I read the first chapter or so, and I don't get the appeal, but cringe is the new norm I guess.

I am glad this popped up here, I am like halfway through the series and had no idea they threw some dlc on the premium version lol. Ocean of PDF got me some backstage access though.

I've been recommended this series a few times. The comment about the extras in the hardcovers makes me want to grab a few of these as opposed to getting the audio form my library (if they have them).

I have to wonder if "The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook" will get me on a list?

I'd say not earlier than high school, but you should really read/listen to at least some of them before giving them to them.
