Panasonic's ARC5 is praised as a very close, fast electric shave, with the Linear motor and four foil elements standing out against Braun and Norelco. Long-term durability can be excellent, with some units still running well after years of use, and the same original blade lasting a long time in lighter use. The main tradeoff is upkeep, since replacement foils and blades can be expensive and wear faster with thick facial hair or frequent shaving. Battery life also varies, with some getting only a few shaves per charge. A strong fit if close shave matters more than low maintenance.

  • Shavers who want a very close electric shave, because this model cuts closer than Braun and Norelco alternatives.

  • People replacing an older electric shaver, because the battery and heads can still be renewed after years of use.

  • Men with sparse facial hair who shave a small area daily, because the shaver can last about 10 years and the blades may never need replacing.

  • Frequent shavers with thick facial hair, because the trimmer helps when whiskers are long and the foil can handle several days between shaves.

  • Buyers who want low ongoing maintenance costs, because replacement blade and foil sets can be expensive.

  • Shavers who prefer faster passes over maximum closeness, because this model shaves more slowly than Braun even though it cuts closer.

  • Heavy-beard shavers who expect long blade life, because the foils and blades can wear out in 3 to 5 months with thick facial hair and frequent use.

  • People who want a shaver with long battery runtime, because a full charge may only cover about three shaves before needing recharge.

before buy, check the "Replacement Blade" cost. its 114$, almost same cost of the product itself. though first refill its 50% off, but i see this is expensive.

i am currently using Braun series 8 for last 5+ years, the refill cartridge cost is around 50-60$. just sharing my view.

Great deal on the best electric shaver on the market. Too bad the one with the cleaning station is never on sale...

Had my eye on this one for a while. I've always used Braun but I spent WAY too much on my last model (series 9) and it almost immediately started falling apart. Power button cap had a tiny piece of plastic holding it in place, for example. No more. Anyone had experiences with Panasonic they can share?

In my experience, Panasonic shavers last 10 years or more before the battery starts to degrade. I only charge mine when it drops to 10% or right before a trip. I am on my third Panasonic in 28 years, and the older ones were still functioning when I gave them away (only one had a degraded battery, the second one was replaced with a really great SD deal). I have never even replaced the blades on any of them -- so 10yrs-ish. My facial hair is sparse, though. I just shave around my mouth and sideburns daily, which only takes about a minute. So YMMV.

I bought the "Replacement Blade & Foil Set for ARC5 Shavers WES9038" set for only ~$45 while visiting Japan a few months ago. The same set on their US website is selling for $135 is beyond ridiculous!

Btw, the stock Foil will be the first to got out after 1 year of daily usage, while the Blades can last 2+ years from what I'm seeing.

The Braun has 2 foil elements. This one has 4 foil elements. If each foil element can cut the same number of hairs in its lifespan, then this will last twice as long, making the replacement cost about equal to the Braun over time.

My experience has been Braun refills are more expensive. I've had both.

Not doubting you but this surprises me if it is consistent.

I have one and I love it. I've had Braun and Norelco in the past. I think this Panasonic is the best.

This thread has me thinking I need to replace my blades more often. I have a Remington tri foil that I have never changed the blades on, but I'm about to shave the beard I've had since 2020 so shaving is about to increase.

Bought this 2 years at this price and it is still working flawlessly. Same original blade.

Not the best on the market. I used a Panasonic Arc 5 for years and it was good. I recently bought a Braun Series 9 at Costco (currently $150) and it's better...still not perfect, but very good.
