Community Reviews
Panasonic's ARC5 is praised as a very close, fast electric shave, with the Linear motor and four foil elements standing out against Braun and Norelco. Long-term durability can be excellent, with some units still running well after years of use, and the same original blade lasting a long time in lighter use. The main tradeoff is upkeep, since replacement foils and blades can be expensive and wear faster with thick facial hair or frequent shaving. Battery life also varies, with some getting only a few shaves per charge. A strong fit if close shave matters more than low maintenance.
Common Questions (5)
The ARC5 shaves closer than Braun and is widely preferred over Norelco's spinning heads, which can pull hairs. Braun is reported to shave faster and its foils/blades can last 2-3x longer, but the Panasonic can give a closer shave.
Foil wear can show up after about a year of daily use, while blades can last 2+ years; with thick facial hair and frequent shaving, some get only 3-5 months. Lighter use can stretch them much longer, and a bead of mineral oil every week or two can help extend life.
Yes. A replacement blade/foil set is reported around $114 on the US site, though genuine OEM replacements have also been found for about $56 on Amazon and about $45 in Japan. The ongoing cost can be higher than expected if you replace heads regularly.
Battery life can be enough for only about 3 shaves for some users, with roughly 20% left after two shaves and about 10 minutes per shave. Others report the shaver lasting 10 years or more before battery degradation becomes noticeable.
Yes. One unit bought two years earlier was still working flawlessly with the original blade, and another long-term user reported Panasonic shavers lasting 10 years or more before battery degradation. That makes it a strong option if you want a durable shaver and don't mind eventual battery or head replacement.

ChatGPT how much are replacement blade? OMG!!! 😱
- Norelco and all other spinning-circle shavers are worthless. I swear they pull hairs individually instead of shaving.
- The two best brands are the medium to high-end razors from Panasonic (anything with the "Linear" motor, which this one has) and Braun. Both brands have low-end versions that are not good.
- Panasonics shave closer, but more slowly, and the foils and blades wear out much more quickly.
- Brauns shave faster, but not quite as close as the Panasonics, and the foils and blades last 2-3x as long as Panasonic.
- I am sure that these two facts are related: a thinner foil allows a closer shave but wears out faster.
All foils and blades will last much longer if you lube them with a bead of mineral oil once every week or two.Hope this helps!

If you don't have much that much facial hair and just mustache and facial hair on your chin, this will shave even better than a regular norelco shaver?
If I don't shave for a few weeks, typically shaving with the norelco shaver will get stuck when shaving. But this doesn't happen that much with this panasonic or it still does?

Price varies a lot depending on the seller. Be careful on ebay, as a lot of the blade/foil sets are Chinese fakes which don't shave nearly as well as the originals.
Both the Panasonic and Braun have a trimmer on the back. If you didn't shave for weeks, the whiskers will be too long and you'll need to use the trimmer first. When I had a Norelco I could only go about two days before it started pulling hairs out. With the Braun or Panasonic I can go several more days. Even then they won't pull the hairs out like the Norelco. They'll just start leaving unshaved hairs behind, and you'll have to go back in with the clippers.
