Panasonic's ARC5 is praised as a very close, fast electric shave, with the Linear motor and four foil elements standing out against Braun and Norelco. Long-term durability can be excellent, with some units still running well after years of use, and the same original blade lasting a long time in lighter use. The main tradeoff is upkeep, since replacement foils and blades can be expensive and wear faster with thick facial hair or frequent shaving. Battery life also varies, with some getting only a few shaves per charge. A strong fit if close shave matters more than low maintenance.

  • Some users report the ARC5 shaves closer than Braun while still handling daily quick sessions.

  • Genuine OEM replacement parts can be available at lower prices than the US site pricing for some ARC5 sets.

  • Panasonic ARC5 units can keep working for about ten years before battery degradation becomes noticeable.

  • The ARC5 can keep the same original blade working for at least two years without needing replacement.

  • Replacement blade and foil costs can be very high, with one cited ARC5 set price around $114.

  • Foil and blade wear can happen quickly, with reports of only about 3-5 months under thick facial hair and frequent shaving.

  • Battery performance can be unexpectedly short, with one report of only about three shaves per full charge.

  • Some replacement sets sold online may be Chinese fakes that shave worse than original parts.

before buy, check the "Replacement Blade" cost. its 114$, almost same cost of the product itself. though first refill its 50% off, but i see this is expensive.i am currently using Braun series 8 for last 5+ years, the refill cartridge cost is around 50-60$. just sharing my view.
In his defense he didn't say he checked thoroughly.

ChatGPT how much are replacement blade? OMG!!! 😱

Great deal on the best electric shaver on the market. Too bad the one with the cleaning station is never on sale...
I have a cleaning station. Will this work in it?

Absolutely. I've owned all the major types of electric shavers. My take:
  1. Norelco and all other spinning-circle shavers are worthless. I swear they pull hairs individually instead of shaving.
  2. The two best brands are the medium to high-end razors from Panasonic (anything with the "Linear" motor, which this one has) and Braun. Both brands have low-end versions that are not good.
  3. Panasonics shave closer, but more slowly, and the foils and blades wear out much more quickly.
  4. Brauns shave faster, but not quite as close as the Panasonics, and the foils and blades last 2-3x as long as Panasonic.
  5. I am sure that these two facts are related: a thinner foil allows a closer shave but wears out faster.
All foils and blades will last much longer if you lube them with a bead of mineral oil once every week or two.

Hope this helps!

How much do replacement blade and foil cost for this? How often do you need to replace it?

If you don't have much that much facial hair and just mustache and facial hair on your chin, this will shave even better than a regular norelco shaver?

If I don't shave for a few weeks, typically shaving with the norelco shaver will get stuck when shaving. But this doesn't happen that much with this panasonic or it still does?

I have this one since last SD deal when it was with a free ear/nose trimmer. Is this normal or I got bad battery? Because after full charge I can shave probably 3 times maximum. After two shavings I have 20% left. I previously used some cheap Braun from Costco and the charge was enough to shave not only my face for many months! I don't have a lot of facial hair, however it takes at least 10 minutes with this Arc5 to cut all hairs. It's more close shave than Braun, but I don't like it can do only around 3 shavings and needs to be recharged again.

Hands down the best shaver I have owned; I've had several brands including Braun and Norelco. I picked this up when the blue was on sale w/FREE Ear, Nose & Facial Hair Trimmer for this price a month ago, rather then buy replacement heads for my existing ARC5 that is several years old, which renews both the heads and the battery.

I only get 3-5 months out of the Panasonic foils/blades, but I have thick facial hair and shave a lot. If you only shave around your mouth and only shave a couple times a week, they'll last a lot longer.

Price varies a lot depending on the seller. Be careful on ebay, as a lot of the blade/foil sets are Chinese fakes which don't shave nearly as well as the originals.

Both the Panasonic and Braun have a trimmer on the back. If you didn't shave for weeks, the whiskers will be too long and you'll need to use the trimmer first. When I had a Norelco I could only go about two days before it started pulling hairs out. With the Braun or Panasonic I can go several more days. Even then they won't pull the hairs out like the Norelco. They'll just start leaving unshaved hairs behind, and you'll have to go back in with the clippers.
